Position Title:  General Development Officer 
Salary:  (USD) $94,632 – $138,970
Number of Vacancies:  One
Travel:  Potential international travel up to 25 percent per year

Description of Organization:  DDI provides technical expertise and delivers values-driven, cross-cutting support and modern approaches to improve the way USAID performs its work.  It provides client-centered technical services to USAID’s Missions worldwide, supports programming to innovate, learn and address emerging issues, and provides technical leadership within the Agency and externally to enhance development impact.  DDI/ESRM helps integrate environmental and social impact assessment into programs funded by USAID and multilateral donors to protect the environment and communities.  In concert with the Agency’s Environmental Coordinator, the DDI/ESRM office ensures DDI’s compliance with USAID’s environmental procedures in accordance with Part 216 of Title 22 of the Code of Federal Regulations.  ESRM also leads review of multilateral development projects for the environment, natural resources, public health and indigenous peoples.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (FS-04 or GS-12) of the position
  • Successful candidates must demonstrate the following:
    • Consulting skills;
    • Expertise in environmental and/or social science;
    • Professional experience in environmental and/or social impact assessment (ESIA) or the review of draft ESIAs;
    • Professional experience in monitoring implementation of mitigation measures;
    • A customer service orientation founded in a fast paced environment;
    • Effective oral and written communication with technical and lay audiences at all levels;
    • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships across different stakeholders, sectors and geographies;
    • Experience in complex, multi-stakeholder negotiations;
    • Ability to influence decision-making;
    • Understanding of development challenges and innovative solutions; and
    • An advanced degree in Natural, Biological and/or Environmental Science or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Must be able to travel internationally.
  • International development work experience is preferred.
