How can you make a difference?

Purpose of Activity/Assignment:

Join our team to work in the framework of the implementation of UNICEF AU and ECA Liaison Office management plan 2022-2025,  establishing a roster of Consultants in the sector of cooperation mentioned below.

Scope of the Works:

The Consultants will be assigned as need arise to prepare high quality brief technical papers and special reports to support review of the AU-UNICEF Engagement and partnerships.  This will include undertaking social research and background technical analytical papers in one or more of the following priority areas of engagement with the AU:

o    Child Rights monitoring;

o    Online Sexual Exploitation

o    Education;

o    Young people’s Development;

o    Children on the move;

o    Children Affected by Armed Conflicts (CAAC).

o    End Child Marriage/FGM Campaigns;

o    Social Protection;

 

Specific tasks and deliverable timelines

Consultants that will be retained for the AUO roster will be assigned detailed tasks and deliverables timelines through a specific ToR on due course.

  1. Undertake a desk review of conventions, protocols and frameworks relevant to the specific sector for Africa and their implications for children;

Inception report

  1. Develop technical analytical paper on the relevance and adequacy of normative legal environment and their coherence, progress, gaps and emerging priorities;

Technical Analytical Paper

  1. Conduct reviews of policy implementation and offer recommendations for improving the protective and programmatic environment;

Report on review of policy implementation

  1. Develop country case studies as deemed appropriate to offer good practices ready for scale-up;

 

Country case studies

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in  Law, International Relations, Development Economics, Sociology, Public Health, or similar Social Sciences related field;
    *A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • A minimum of [insert years] of relevant professional experience in  social research, writing/editing and scientific publications..
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills, with a proven ability to absorb, analyze and synthesize a large amount of qualitative and quantitative information in a short amount of time.
  • Good knowledge of development and programme issues, especially with children’ issues and UNICEF’s work.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
