Position Description

The Department of History at Texas State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Black History in North America, ca. 1750 – 1850. The successful candidate will be expected to teach the first half of the U.S. history survey, the first half of the African American survey, specialized undergraduate and graduate courses, and to direct theses. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to the African American Studies program. Participation in departmental programs, service, and governance is expected.

Appointment date is Fall 2022. Salary is commensurate with experience. All positions are subject to availability of funds.

Required Qualifications

A Ph.D. in History or related field, such as Africana Studies, African American Studies, or American Studies is required by the time of appointment.

Candidates should demonstrate an active research agenda, with a record of scholarship, that complements the existing strengths of the department.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in mentoring students of color.
