Job Description Summary

The Service Assistant provides support to The Weitzman School of Design’s Operations and Planning/Design and Construction Office including, but not limited to, support of audio/visual equipment in exhibition rooms, receiving and distributing mail, packages, and materials, assembling materials; troubleshooting minor mechanical and trades issues, reporting building issues to Facilities Services, daily maintenance and repair to makerbot suite, lifting and moving heavy objects/ materials, providing event/classroom support, and project work as assigned. Experience with audio/visual
equipment is required. The Service Assistant reports to the Director of Operations and Planning/Design and Construction and must be able to work independently. The Service Assistant must be customer service oriented and be able to use standard tools, lift 50 pounds unassisted, and occasionally move equipment between 100-500 pounds

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Project work as assigned

  • Provide event/classroom AV and furniture support

  • Troubleshoot minor mechanical and trades issues, reporting building issues to Facilities Services

  • Receive and distribute mail, packages, and materials

  • Lift and move heavy objects/materials

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

A High School Diploma or GED and 2 years to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience are required. Individual must have experience with audio visual equipment. Ability to frequently lift and move heavy objects weighing 25-50 pound or more; physically able to move about actively; mechanical aptitude (use of tools requiring high dexterity as required in performance of job duties); must be customer service and team oriented and be able to interface and communicate with people at various organizational levels; ability to read, write, perform basic work assessment and performance. Overtime is a frequent requirement of this position, must be able to work overtime on short notice. This job requires walking, standing, use of standard tools, lifting, and moving of often delicate equipment between 100-500 pounds. This job requires ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted. Must be physically able to perform all functions of this position.
