Main purpose of internship
The British Embassy Quito’s Environment and Economic Diplomacy Team is recruiting an intern to contribute to the UK’s goals of supporting Ecuador’s sustainable growth.
The Intern will support in the delivery of several UK Government programmes in Ecuador focused on biodiversity conservation, climate change, oceans protection, forests, and green finance, as well as helping with economic reporting.
Through this opportunity, the Embassy will provide valuable work experience for an Ecuadorean undergraduate student. This role will be of particular benefit to those students focused on the environment, ecology, biology, international relations, sustainable development, economics and finance, and other related fields.
Roles and responsibilities
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Supporting the team by conducting research and analysis of topics relevant to the UK’s environmental programming in Ecuador.
- Supporting the team by conducting research and analysis of Ecuador’s economic development, key indicators, and regulatory instruments.
- Producing one-pagers, infographics and reports of the programmes and projects implemented by the team.
- Supporting due diligence processes for institutions working in partnership with the Embassy.
- Supporting the team in stakeholder mapping and engagement processes: engagement, high-level visits, and programme implementation.
- Assisting in the organisation of events: developing databases, drawing up an agenda, producing communication materials, confirming invitations.
- Being the link between the Environment and Economic Team and the embassy Communications Officer, to broadcast key information via social media channels.
- Supporting in designing bids relevant for the implementation of the team’s priorities.
- Producing recommendations for the strategic development of the team and its programmes.
- Working as a flexible member of the Embassy team to support wider Embassy objectives as needed.

- Be a currently enroled undergraduate student studying a relevant subject at an Ecuadorean University in the last year of their programme. The successful candidate must be enroled in an undergraduate programme at the time of applying and signing the offer.
- Interest in the environment, economic development, and the UK Government’s work in Ecuador.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
- Excellent analytical, research and reporting skills.
- Proactive and capability to work in teams and autonomously.
- Ability to respond flexibly to changing priorities.
- Good time management and prioritization skills.
- Ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders.
- fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish.
- Legal status to live and work in Ecuador in your own right, from time of Application.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6 months, the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.

Working patterns
Availability to work 30 hours per week, to fit in with the applicant’s study pattern. Flexibility to work within the Embassy’s opening hours: In-person only.
Our hours are:
Monday – Thursday: 08.00 – 16.30
Friday: 08.00 – 13.00
6-month Civil Contract, non-renewable
Monthly internship fee of US$482 + IESS contributions paid by Embassy in full.
Appointment will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance.
You must have the legal status to live and work in Ecuador. Additionally, you must be eligible under the relevant Ecuadorean legal requirements, namely that you must be an undergraduate student of a Higher education institution who is currently enroled in classes or has completed their studies in the last 18 months but has not received their degree title. Postgraduate degree’s students are not applicable for this position.
