About the role

Senior Aboriginal Staff Engagement Officer is responsible for supporting the delivery of projects and initiatives under the department’s Aboriginal Workforce Strategy 2021 – 2026, and internal implementation of the department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Safety Framework.

The Senior Adviser Aboriginal Engagement works with a range of internal and external stakeholders to continuously improve the department’s programs to attract increasing numbers of Aboriginal employees into career pathways that are diverse and inclusive. The Senior Adviser Aboriginal Engagement will provide strategic advice to deliver strategies to create a culturally safe employee experience, where individuals are valued for their cultural knowledge and lived experience.

About you

The successful applicant will demonstrate sound leadership and people management skills, as well as an ability to influence others to maximise efficiency and effectiveness of the Victorian health workforces and improve outcomes for Victorians. You are a big-picture thinker who has a good ability to translate strategic direction into achievable milestones. You are inclusive in your leadership approach and encourages team collaboration. Your cultural knowledge will support you in supporting cultural safety across the Department.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. A tertiary qualification in fields related to human resources or organisational development would be desirable.
  2. Demonstrated experience and understanding of working collaboratively with Aboriginal organisations and communities.
  3. A strong understanding of the Victorian health system, and knowledge of the department and its operating processes and information systems is essential.
  4. Ability to forge strong connections across the department and with external stakeholders to facilitate a partnership approach to achieve outcomes in the department’s Aboriginal Workforce Strategy and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Safety Framework.
  5. Strong critical analysis and reporting skills, high attention to detail, excellent writing skills and experience in managing stakeholder relationships.
