The Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications at Penn State seeks an outstanding faculty member, who brings a distinguished record of professional experience, to join our journalism faculty in teaching the next generation of student-journalists. The professorship will hold a non-tenure-line, multi-year position as Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Journalism. The appointment will begin in August 2022.
The successful applicant will teach the next generation of journalists how to innovate in a fast-changing media environment. Candidates should have demonstrated expertise as pioneers and leaders in newsgathering and multimedia reporting, a commitment to social justice and the ability to inspire a diverse student body.
As a full-time member of our faculty, the successful candidate will help students appreciate the vital role of journalism in providing the public information needed to fully function in a democracy by holding those in power accountable. A focus on building and strengthening partnerships with professional associations, faculty, students and community stakeholders is also desired, as is the ability to develop and support collaborations. The Department seeks someone to teach basic and advanced journalism courses, located within the “teaching hospital” environment of the new, state-of-the-art Bellisario Media Center.
The successful candidate should possess at least a Master’s degree or its equivalent in Journalism or a related field ; must have demonstrated ability as a teacher and adviser; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter.
Relevant professional industry experience is required. Those with a background in public radio or podcasting are encouraged to apply. Experience in watchdog journalism and/or multiplatform editing is also a plus.
This is a limited-term position funded for 3 years, with excellent chances of renewal.

Our new faculty will be an integral part of using the facility to drive student success.
