Full Job Description
You will serve as a International Relations Specialist in the Strategic Planning and Policy Directorate
- You will develop and interpret policies, procedures and strategies governing strategic messaging and engagement planning and regional military policy.
- You will provide expert technical advice, guidance, and recommendations on issues.
- You will make decisions or recommendations that significantly influence policies and programs of Japan, Republic of Korea, and Mongolia.
- You will apply knowledge of politico-military concepts, management practices, military operational concepts, policy and planning guidelines, unified command philosophy, and functional staff jurisdiction in leading and coordinating projects.
Occasional travel – You may be expected to travel for this position.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Developing and providing high-level strategic messaging and engagement planning and regional policies; 2) Coordinating and partnering with the Mena Pacs inter-agencies, and intergovernmental sectors to better integrate equities into strategic planning, deliberate planning, crisis action planning, and timely strategic response; 3) Coordinating with Northeast Asia, particularly Japan, Republic of Korea, and Mongolia; and 4) Adjusting staffing levels or work procedures to accommodate resource allocation decisions made at higher echelons.

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Applicants must possess a bachelor’s or high degree with a major or equivalent, or a combination of courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in international law and international relations, political science, economics, history, sociology, geography, social or cultural anthropology, law, statistics, or in the humanities; or 12 semester hours in one of the above disciplines and 12 semester hours in statistics/quantitative methods;
OR have a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major that included at least 24 semester hours in international law and international relations, political science, economics, history, sociology, geography, social or cultural anthropology, law, statistics, or in the humanities, plus four years of appropriate experience in one or more of the fields in work associated with international organizations, problems, or other aspects of foreign affairs or additional education; or 12 semester hours in one of the above disciplines and 12 semester hours in statistics/quantitative methods, plus addition education or appropriate experience gained through residence, study, teaching, business or commercial activities, military service, newspaper work, military or civil government activities, missionary or inter-national relief work, or other experience in foreign countries. (Experience may also have been gained through teaching college-level courses in international relations or problems associated with a specific foreign geographic area);
OR have at least four years of appropriate experience in one or more of the fields listed above in work associated with international organizations, problems, or other aspects of foreign affairs.
