The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a federally funded, private, nonprofit grantmaking organization that works to support freedom around the world, seeks a Program Officer (PO) or Senior Program Officer (SPO), Emergency Response for the Program Department. The position is based in Washington, D.C.
Position Summary:
The Program Officer/Senior Program Officer will serve as the institution lead on the coordination of a wide-scale, multi-departmental relief effort for displaced partners, including those from Afghanistan. The Program Officer/Senior Program Officer will work across departments, including Program, Government Relations, Security, Finance, and Grants to ensure cost-effective, partner-centered, and efficient provision of support. Responsibilities include budget projections and tracking; database management; internal and external coordination; data analysis and reporting; resource development; individualized support; internal communication; and administrative support for resettlement or temporary relocation. The Program Officer/Senior Program Officer will work closely with and/or supervise a Field Coordinator and an assistant. This position reports to the program director.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate multi-department relief effort.
- Develop budget projections, tracking, and reporting.
- Coordinate with Core Institutes and other NGOs.
- Manage internal communication.
- Responsible for database management, including analysis, reporting, and data integrity.
- Coordinate legal and administrative support for partners, including production of visa referrals.
- Supervise Field Coordinator and an Assistant.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- The level of responsibility and independence in assigned tasks will increase with experience.
Qualifications:

Knowledge/Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in relevant field required, international relations; Masters preferred;
- Relevant experience required:
- Level 5 (PO) 4-7 years
- Level 6 (SPO) 8-10 years
- Significant experience in nonprofit work;
- Significant international work experience;
- Strong computer skills, including expertise in Microsoft Office suite.

- Familiarity with refugee resettlement or provision of aid for displaced peoples;
- Demonstrated management excellence;
- Experience in high-stress environments;
- International experience in difficult environments;
- Ability to travel frequently and on short notice, as required;
- Authorized to work in the United States.
