Climate Program Overview
At WRI India’s Climate Program we focus on integrated solutions to enable India’s low carbon transition. Through applied research, tools, hands-on advice, and by tapping our network of global experts, we access what climate policies could enable clean energy transition, what action will enable urban transition and how the outcomes can be just and equitable.

Position Overview (Brief Overview of the Role)
WRI India is seeking an Intern to help develop a white paper on ‘Low carbon sustainable transportation in India’. With his/her knowledge of the transport sector and climate change related issues in India, the Intern will help the Climate Program at WRI India to conduct research on low carbon pathways for the transport sector in India, using a variety of methods such as review of relevant literature and government reports, data analysis and modeling, to identify key sectoral strategies for decarbonization.
Globally, WRI has deep experience in the climate sector and is widely recognized as a leader on climate issues. In India, we have a multi-pronged climate strategy that looks at directing our tools, research, expertise and partnerships in ensuring long term decarbonization which is ‘just’ and ‘inclusive’ driven by cohesive actions by national, non-state and subnational actors.
Key Responsibilities:
The Intern will carry out the following activities:
- Help the WRI India Climate team to write a white paper on ‘Low carbon sustainable transportation in India’.
- Collect and analyse literature, policies, and data to identify priority recommendations for low carbon development in India’s transport sector.
- Write assigned sections of the paper and address review comments.
- Participate in regular internal and external meetings related to this study, and provide inputs as necessary.
- Document all assumptions, methods, data, modeling, and literature.
Required Attributes and Credentials:
- Student of engineering, economics, urban development, sustainable development, etc.
- Ability to review and synthesise literature, including research publications, technical reports, and policy documents.
- Ability to collect and analyse data from government documents and other sources in the public domain.
- Appreciation of climate change and sustainable development challenges for India
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Proficiency in quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
- Ability to think creatively, work calmly and enthusiastically under pressure
Stipend: 25,000 per month
Location: India (Virtual)
