The Crisis Analytics provides regular tailored analysis for Mercy Corps programs and the wider humanitarian community. Typical products and services range from informal briefings to weekly products, contributions to risk assessments, in-depth assessment of the political economy of a defined geography, deep-dives on specific thematics, etc., ranging in themes from conflict to market systems to governance, in line with programmatic needs.
Purpose / Project Description:
An editor is needed to take responsibility for the editorial processes, from developed draft to publication, of the analysis team’s multiple workflows. The editor will ensure that the materials published are of the highest quality and are delivered on schedule to meet the specific needs of each program. Working in collaboration with the Team Lead, the editor will progress the team’s best practices, workflows, tools and templates to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the publishing process. They will ensure that products are delivered in consistent style and with a common ‘voice’ across all different workflows. They will develop an understanding of our audience’s needs to support them being met.
Consultant Objectives:
The Consultant will be responsible for structural edits and proofing of the analysis team’s internal and external written products and will be part of a wider community of practice with Mercy Corps’ Crisis Analytics teams.
Consultant Activities:
The Consultant will:
- Work with the Team Leader and team to create and manage detailed workflows for production of analytical products to ensure deadlines and donor needs across multiple programs are met
- Edit early-stage drafts of external products in collaboration with analysts
- Copyedit final drafts checking for consistency, grammar and style
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders as directed to increase understanding of audience needs
- Submit work in accordance with the program’s output time-line and determined deadlines.
- Join all project meetings and calls as required.
Consultant Deliverables:
The Consultant will:
- Ensure that all written products produced by the HAT are at publishing standards.
Timeframe / Schedule:
6 month consultancy (estimated approximately 22 days per month).
Estimated start date: July 2021
Due date for deliverables will be established with Team Lead according to the established schedule and requirements of project partners.

Required Experience & Skills:
- 5-10 years of editorial experience
- Knowledge of the aid and development sector
- Demonstrated experience in copy-editing analytical reports
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including in multi- and cross-cultural communication and relationship-building
- Competency in Internet and Microsoft Office systems including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and other
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken is required.
