About ICCROM

ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) is an intergovernmental organization with headquarters in Rome, Italy. Founded by UNESCO in 1956, it is the only institution of its kind with a worldwide mandate to promote and improve the conservation of all types of cultural heritage through training, information, research, cooperation and advocacy. Background and Objective

ICCROM strives to expand and strengthen its partnerships and pursue greater financial sustainability, while promoting its role and visibility as an intergovernmental organization in the field of heritage conservation.

In the framework of developing a new resource mobilization strategy, ICCROM is looking to expand its donor base with a particular focus on the private sector. To do so, it aims to engaging in partnerships with private entities, such as corporate actors, foundations, philanthropists and High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) interested in cultural heritage and conservation, thereby establishing collaborations that increase visibility and financial sustainability.

To support this objective, ICCROM is seeking the support of a Private Sector Fundraising Consultant (the Consultant) who will be tasked with identifying potential partnerships and fundraising opportunities with the private sector and providing guidance and recommendations for private sector engagement.

Key Tasks

  • Integrated Fundraising Strategy: Leveraging his/her expertise in private sector fundraising and experience in the cultural heritage sector, the Consultant will work with ICCROM staff to help develop elements of a new ICCROM resource mobilization strategy that specifically relate to sourcing and on-boarding private donors, including corporate actors, foundations, philanthropists and High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI).
  • Relationship Building: Capitalizing on his/her existing contacts and networks, the Consultant will support ICCROM in mapping private sector partnership and funding opportunities related to cultural heritage conservation, and developing an international roster of potential donors and partners from the private sector.
  • Guidance on Outreach and Engagement: The Consultant is expected to provide guidance in matters related to private sector fundraising and communication, including:
    • good practice in the organization of events, campaigns, and private partners meetings,
    • effective methods for participation in high-profile events and forums that connect donors and companies including gatherings of foundations and philanthropic networks and circles,
    • good practice for ICCROM to represent itself on relevant panels and events that serve to recruit and retain private sector donors,
    • means of heightening the profile of ICCROM in order to better secure high level support,
    • good practice on submission of grant applications and business cases for private sector funders including compliance with private donor rules.

Profile and Minimum Qualifications of the Consultant

The ideal Consultant has a strong record of accomplishments with private sector fundraising, in addition to experience in the cultural heritage sector. He/she is well connected with the private sector (both companies as well as philanthropic associations and foundations) and has:

  • Familiarity with the cultural sector and its resource dynamics, with a knowledge of the key actors and their roles;
  • Knowledge of major trends in the philanthropic landscape and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR);
  • Extensive networks and personal contacts across philanthropies and foundations;
  • A proven track record of successfully concluded fundraising with major private donors and extensive experience in grant submissions and managing fundraising campaigns;
  • Excellent oral communication, writing, and editing skills in English (knowledge of French and Spanish is an advantage).

Consultancy Period

The consultancy is expected to be undertaken over a two-month period beginning in September 2021. The consultant will be expected to participate in calls and consult ICCROM staff during the process. A specific work plan and working modality will be discussed and agreed with the selected candidate.

Deliverables

Deliverables will include:

  • A mapping of partnership and funding opportunities for ICCROM, including information on funding mechanisms and grant application procedures and deadlines.
  • A report on private sector fundraising, outreach and engagement covering the topics outlined in the Key Tasks (above).
