Under the general supervision of the Emergency Specialist (Assessment, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation), the intern would support the revitalization of the Humanitarian Performance Monitoring (HPM) community.

How can you make a difference?

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the day to day management of the HPM community including a webinar series and the yammer feed.

  • Identify gaps and out of date materials on Humanitarian PME and PPPX sites and develop drafts to address those gaps.

  • Support the development of a suite of training and capacity building for HPM alumni, young UNICEF and a deployable roster, in partnership with the Frontlines team in the Division of Human Resources (DHR).

  • Support the Humanitarian Review Recommendation to “Ensure that global PM&E staff are trained in data collection technologies and that new hires are fully competent in these technologies to ensure that UNICEF improves its data collection methods and remains efficient in data collection and analysis.”

  • Support the development of tools and the continued rollout of the Core Commitment for Children (CCC)

To qualify as an advocate for every child you must:

  • Be enrolled in an graduate or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years in any of these areas: Research, Data Analysis, Economics, Statistics, Social sciences or International Development.
  • Strong drafting and solid design skills.
  • Intermediate/Advance Excel skills.
  • Infographics, graphic design and video editing skills an asset
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority to which you would be reporting.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
  • Additional consideration will be given to any past professional experience, especially on Humanitarian/Emergency settings.

Remarks:

Salary/Payment:

UNICEF will pay a monthly stipend to the intern as per UNICEF procedure on internship programme. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship. UNICEF is not responsible for obtaining any necessary visas.

Insurance:

UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern’s service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start his/her work with UNICEF.

Living Conditions and Working Environment:

The intern will work remotely and attending meetings virtually. S/he will work with the team in charge of support the revitalization of the Humanitarian Performance Monitoring (HPM) community. 

Duration: 26 weeks

Cost: All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns or their sponsoring institutions.

Visa: You will be responsible for obtaining and financing for the necessary visas.

Travel: You will arrange and finance your travel to the United Nations location where you will be an intern.

Medical insurance: You will be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship and must show proof of a valid major global medical insurance coverage.

Confidentiality: You must be discreet and keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.

– If accepted, the intern will be required to provide a copy of health insurance coverage and to fill out the UNICEF form on conditions regarding service as an intern.
