How can you make a difference?

The Education Section, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) is seeking an individual contractor to increase SEA-PLM’s profile, edition and publication process and expand media, researchers, and policy makers coverage by proactively pitching stories and create communications content for a wide range of media, including video, online and print.

Work Assignment:

The SEA-PLM communication associate will support all Communications activities related to SEA-PLM, including the specific deliverables under this contract. See the list of deliverables below in Section 7. The overarching workplan will be adjusted monthly, and agreed with the individual contractor in monthly workplans. More specifically, the individual contractor will:

  • Increase SEA-PLM’s profile and expand media, researchers, and policy makers coverage by proactively pitching stories, expand partner lists and network around activities in internal and external publications in UNICEF EAPRO and the SEA-PLM Secretariat
  • Manage and expand public-facing news on SEA-PLM
  • Create communications content for a wide range of media, including video, online and print
  • Design strategy for and manage SEA-PLM social media channels
  • Contribute to SEA-PLM website and harness these platforms as tools for outreach
  • Explore new modes of communications through innovative technology
  • Support publication chart and coordinate all publication and printing process of SEA-PLM study materials, including proofreading
  • Support the development of the next round SEA-PLM communication component
  • Follow relevant media and debates in regional education policy and pro-actively identify opportunities for SEA-PLM contributions
  • Contribute to the documentation and that the institutional memory is preserved
  • Support organizing events

Regular update meetings will be organized between the individual contractor and EAPRO staff in charge of managing SEA-PLM activities, to plan as much as possible the requests and needs the individual contractor will receive.

Duration of Contract:  1 August 2021 and 31 January 2022 (6 Months).

Working Location: The individual contractor will work remotely in his/her own premises but will regularly report to the supervisor. All office supplies and materials will be provided by the Individual Contractor.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, communications/media relations, international relations or other relevant fields;
  • A minimum of 2 years in a professional media relations or public outreach role on behalf of an organization, preferably in an international setting;
  • Excellent English writing ability and verbal skills for project proposals, reports, and communications;
  • Experience with both print and digital media is a must;
  • Excellent digital and online communication skills, previous professional experience with social media and website management are preferred (Joomla CMS, video edition) ;
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to initiate ideas and follow them through to completion;
  • Confident working with numbers and communicating complex data;
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving and negotiation skills. The ability to remain calm whilst deal with conflicting priorities/work under pressure is essential;
  • High-level interpersonal and communications skills; with the ability to write clear, concise reports and to facilitate/lead a group of individuals and impart knowledge;
  • A proven record of effective media communication products;
  • S/he must be able to plan and manage her/his own time effectively. The holder must exercise a strong work ethic and take responsibility for his/her own actions;
  • Familiarity with UNICEF/UN operating procedures and structures;

Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
