Online Adjunct Professor of Psychology


Job Summary/Basic Function

An adjunct faculty in Psychology will be responsible to teach students in online undergraduate Psychology, Sociology, Christian Counseling, and/or graduate Psychology. Additionally, adjunct faculty being considered for graduate level teaching may be asked to mentor doctoral students in dissertation research as a chairperson or committee member. Candidates must have the academic credentials to teach and/or mentor research in one or more of the following areas: research, statistics, industrial/organizational psychology, physiological psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, neuropsychology, cognitive psychology, and tests and measurements. Teaching responsibilities will include preparing and disseminating weekly announcements, communicating with students via e-mails, preparing course videos, moderating discussion board forums, and grading weekly. The adjunct will be expected to respond to e-mails within 24 hours and will grade student’s assignments, giving substantive feedback, within 5 days of the assignment submission. The adjunct will also carry out administrative responsibilities as directed by their Instructional Mentor, Faculty Support Coordinator, Online Chair, or Associate Dean; these administrative tasks include roster verification, reporting items, and timely submission of final grades, etc.

Adjunct Faculty Teaching Responsibilities include:

  • Teach material from approved curriculum in accordance with assigned schedule to ensure student satisfaction.
  • Assist students in achieving completion of objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Provide regular and timely feedback to students.
  • Participate in school retention initiatives by maintaining contact with students and offers assistance to absent students.
  • Advise students in matters related to academics and attendance.
  • Motivate students to actively participate in all aspect of the educational process.
  • Maintain and report student grades and attendance in accordance with university policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Adjunct Faculty Dissertation Mentoring Responsibilities include:

  • Mentor dissertation students in the dissertation research process from conceptualization of the research problem to designing & conducting the dissertation study.
  • Guide dissertation students in the IRB process.
  • Provide regular and timely feedback to students.
  • Lead Dissertation Defense meetings virtually.
  • Motivate students to progress in their dissertation projects.
  • Other duties relevant to the dissertation process.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must be able to educate students from a Christian worldview.
  • Candidates must have a compatible statement of faith and academic worldview with Liberty University.
  • Candidates must have the academic credentials to teach or mentor in one or more of the following areas: research, statistics, industrial/organizational psychology, physiological psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, neuropsychology, cognitive psychology, and tests and measurements.
  • Earned doctorate in Psychology or related field from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Superior interpersonal, customer service, presentation, and communication skills required.
  • Creative, innovative, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to complete assignments timely and accurately with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Blackboard, and audio/video.
  • Able to obtain and maintain licenses if applicable as required by state or accrediting commissions.
  • Demonstrated strengths in teaching & mentoring at the college level is essential.
