The British Embassy in Budapest is part of the United Kingdom’s world-wide diplomatic network, and represents British political, economic and consular interests in Hungary and is now looking to recruit a Prosperity Social media communications assistant.
As part of the Embassy’s Policy team and Prosperity pillar, you will help develop and implement all aspects of our digital communications in support of our prosperity, economic, innovation and sustainability areas of work.
You will help shape the digital communications strategy particularly for work on the UK-Hungarian trade and innovation policy, green economic recovery and climate changes issues. You will help grow our digital audience and supporting the smooth running of our digital channels together with other communications officers, by producing and posting creative and exciting content that will appeal to our target audiences and deliver key messages. You will provide administrative project support in these areas as well as ad hoc support to the team. You will be one of our Embassy experts on social media providing advice across the Embassy.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and post engaging and innovative content across all of the Embassy social media channels, in particular Instagram, but also Facebook and Twitter. Produce visually appealing photographs and videos and write posts which will speak to our target audiences. Be responsible for working with London and the regional digital hub to ensure our channels are posting the correct centrally created content on prosperity, economic and sustainability issues. Be responsible for conducting the conversation with our followers, replying to messages and reaching out to people the embassy wants to engage. Look for innovative ways to interact with audiences, including arranging live and interactive discussions;
- Follow and keep up to date with social media and digital trends. Closely monitor our audience profile. Work with the Embassy’s communications group to support the strategy that ensures we are delivering the right messages, through the right channels, to the right people, and look to grow our audiences to deliver maximum communications impact. Produce periodic reports on the performance of social media channels and make recommendations for improvement;
- Contribute to the successful delivery of embassy-wide public diplomacy projects and advise colleagues on the best use of online communications of policy projects;
- Produce innovative, creative and engaging videos, photography and infographics on relevant areas;
- Collaborate with your prosperity, economic, innovation and climate change colleagues, and other policy officers, to amplify their output and consult with them on how to target their audiences for maximum impact;
- Provide administrative support to the Prosperity Pillar of the Embassy’s Policy team including work on forms and processes around projects and events, and maintaining networking details related to this pillar.
- Excellent English and Hungarian both verbal and written (minimum C1 level for CEFR framework *);
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in digital media and communications;
- Experience of working on or delivering digital marketing/communications campaigns;
- Strong experience of building and engaging online audiences through social media and writing digital content in Hungarian and English;
- Excellent knowledge of social media platforms especially Instagram, aware of the latest digital trends and strong practical knowledge of using digital tools (social media, blogs) for productivity, collaboration and engagement;
- Excellent editorial skills, the ability to write and edit engagingly in both Hungarian and English using the appropriate tone of voice aimed at a variety of audiences;
- Video production, graphic design;
- A ‘people person’ and effective communicator with strong customer focus;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, responding flexibly to changing priorities;
- Proven experience in managing and delivering a demanding workload;
- Experience of managing social media platforms, including developing channel strategies, audience profiling and community building;
- Experience developing and delivering strategic campaigns to advance policy or other formal objectives;
- Experience of using data analytics to evaluate performance of social media channels and campaigns;
- Ability to work with external partners and manage suppliers and contractors;
- Direct experience of producing and editing photography and visual media for social media;
- Ability to grasp complex issues quickly and communicate them digitally in an effective way;
- Ability to grip and manage multiple projects and associated reporting and administrative skills, in particular project and programme management skills via online budgetary systems.
- Expertise in any of the following: Google Analytics; Infographics;
- Experience in creating infographics;
- Familiar with knowledge management/e-learning platforms for collaboration and knowledge sharing;
- Experience working within a large organisation’s brand guidelines and codes of conduct;
- Knowledge of other digital tools for content creation;
- University degree or equivalent;
- Awareness of economic issues and current affairs and/or the desire to learn more on this policy area.

This is a full-time position of 5 days (35 hours net per week) for fixed-term contract of 1 year with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance. You must have pre-existing work authorisation for Hungary in order to apply.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Hungarian employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Hungary and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
