The Department of Anthropology at Penn State is seeking a researcher who has substantial ancient DNA and paleogenomics laboratory, bioinformatics, interdisciplinary project leadership, and grant writing experience. The successful candidate would lead major paleogenomic studies of extinct subfossil primates, prehistoric humans, and other organisms having the potential to inform our understandings of human evolution and population history. They would also identify and help to seek funding for new project opportunities, including as part of multi-investigator collaborative teams. Finally, they would help supervise the training and projects of student and postdoc ancient DNA researchers.
The appointment would be as an Assistant Research Professor for an initial appointment of one year, followed by possible renewal depending on availability of funds. The position will begin in fall 2021.
Education and Experience:
A Ph.D. in evolutionary anthropology, biology, or a related field is required.
Experience in leading ancient DNA/paleogenomics projects to completion, including with hands-on bioinformatics experience, is required.
Candidates should be able to work with graduate students, professional staff, faculty, and part-time undergraduate employees.
