Adjunct Professor – U.S. History


The Department of History & Interdisciplinary Studies at Norfolk State University seeks applications for two adjunct professors of U.S. history beginning August 2021. The Department offers five curricula in History, four in Interdisciplinary Studies, three minors (Interdisciplinary Studies, History, and Africana Studies), a certificate in African and African Diaspora Studies, and fully online degree programs in both History and Interdisciplinary Studies.

The successful candidate will:
1 Teach undergraduate courses in U.S. History.

2. Engage in exemplary face-to-face and online teaching.

3. Collegially engage with faculty and meet university deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, the individual filling this position will have the following qualifications:

1. Must possess a Ph.D. in U.S. History

2. Demonstrated record of teaching U.S. History

3. Experience with online teaching and the use of online learning management systems (Blackboard LMS or similar). Considerable, documented evidence of training in this area is also acceptable.

4. Experience with or strong evidence of potential commitment to excellence in teaching.

5. Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, personal integrity and a demonstrated commitment to diversity.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Considerable experience teaching in higher education.

2. Considerable experience (2 or more years) teaching online using LMS such as Blackboard.
