Professor of Architectural History

SCAD Savannah seeks a professor to join its team of architectural history faculty and guide students through the investigation of modern architecture and urbanism, paying special attention to global trends from 1750 to present. Along with other faculty in the department, you will develop students’ acumen for creative inquiry, advanced research, critical thinking, various methodological approaches, and effective oral and written communication skills.

The department offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in architectural history: a four-year B.F.A. degree and a two-year M.F.A. degree. Students from diverse disciplines benefit from the architectural history expertise of our faculty, including students majoring in furniture design, preservation design, the top-ranked interior design program (Design Intelligence), and the university’s distinctive architecture program with its Integrated Path to Architecture Licensure, which leads to the NAAB-accredited M.Arch. degree. Housed in the SCAD School of Building Arts, the architectural history department also supports study abroad programs at the university’s location in Lacoste, France.

As part of a community of diverse and highly credentialed colleagues, you will have access to the largest physical library holdings among art and design schools in the U.S. You and your students will have exclusive access to objects of study at the SCAD Museum of Art, SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film, and the Lacoste History Museum. This global network of libraries, museums, galleries, and signature events provides unparalleled opportunities for students to explore the emergence of innovative forms of expression and engage in scholarly research.

Named among the best small cities in the U.S. by Condé Nast Traveler, Savannah has an inviting climate and culturally rich downtown that provide a real-world workshop for the study of art and design that allows faculty, staff, and students alike to flourish. SCAD blends seamlessly into the landscape of Savannah, which is home to one of the nation’s largest and most renowned National Historic Landmark districts and has been recognized for its adaptive reuse and urban revitalization by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the American Institute of Architects, and the International Downtown.
