Visiting Assistant Professor/Instructor of Journalism


Knox College invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor/Instructor of

Journalism to begin in September, 2021. This is a one-year visiting appointment (non-tenure

track) with the possibility of renewal. Knox College provides a competitive salary and a strong

Knox seeks an innovative teacher with significant professional experience in journalism.

Candidates should have experience working with diverse populations of students and possess a

commitment to teach successfully in a multicultural environment. Knox College welcomes a

diverse student body, with over 35% identifying as American students of color and more than

15% from international countries.

Disciplinary specialization is open, but candidates should be able to teach beginning and

advanced writing and reporting courses and have demonstrated potential to teach undergraduate

students in at least one or more of the following specialty areas: news writing and reporting,

editorial design (print and digital), photojournalism, podcasting, broadcast journalism, feature

writing and reporting, multimedia storytelling, social media, database journalism. Candidates

should have expertise in digital journalism and have demonstrated research and/or teaching

ability in journalism history and/or diversity in the media. The standard teaching load at Knox

College is six courses per year (two courses per ten-week trimester).

Visiting faculty members at Knox are included in the professional and intellectual life of the

College and have College support for research and conference travel.

Required Qualifications:
Prior teaching at the college level or similar experience

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or higher in mass communication or relevant discipline

An experienced professional with a bachelor’s degree for a consecutive-term

appointment, on condition of completion of a master’s degree within three years may be

considered.
