Main purpose of job:

The Technical Works Group at The British High Commission is seeking to recruit a full-time Electrician. The ideal candidate should have 2-3 years’ experience with 220V systems along with general electrical troubleshooting experience. Under the direct supervision of the TWG Foreman, the candidate shall identify suitable materials, quantity required, safely operate electrical tools and equipment; and maintain safe, sound and compliant electrical systems and related amenities of the High Commission, at high standards. The candidate shall also liaise effectively with other tradesmen to coordinate and complete jobs in accordance with guidelines and schedule. Please note that a valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record is also a requirement for this position.

 

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

·       Domestic house re-wires and upgrades to UK specifications;

·       Provision of UK 220V electrical systems and distribution board upgrades;

·       Electrical fault finding and troubleshooting on domestic installations and appliances;

·       Addition of electrical sockets and lighting in an office environment;

Essential on arrival:

·       A recognised Electrical Qualification to diploma/degree level or equivalent

·       Current and valid general driver’s licence

·       2 -3 years’ work experience as an Electrician

·       Knowledge of UK standards of wiring (18th Edition);

·       Good IT skills (particularly Microsoft Office applications);

·       Strong oral and written communication skills;

·       Proven ability to work in a team and follow supervisory directives

 

Job Holder will be required to:

·       Have knowledge of mathematical principles and able to apply this on the job

·       Visit job locations and communicate effectively with customers

  • Utilizes other talents in related trades where necessary

Desirable:

·       Knowledge of HVAC and split air conditioning systems;

·       Knowledge of generators;

·       Knowledge of emergency lighting systems;

·       Knowledge of UK test and inspection techniques;

·       Knowledge of hydraulic systems;

·       Knowledge of lightning protection systems;

·       A good understanding of other building trades;

·       Knowledge of Health & Safety practices

·       Experience in High Voltage would be an advantage;

·       Basic construction skills highly desirable

·       Knowledge/experience in other disciplines would be an asset.

·       Basic Computer skills (Windows)
