Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1. Effectively prepares and teaches Political Science classes to facilitate student learning as stipulated in the curriculum course outline
2. Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades
3. Provides appropriate and timely evaluation of, and feedback for, all assignments
4. Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance
5. Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards
6. Informs students of progress-to-date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines
7. Maintains a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment
8. Responds to department emails and completes required department paperwork
9. Demonstrates and supports professional commitment to Division, School, and College mission and values
10. Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization
11. Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators
12. Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy
13. Maintains professional and collegial behavior
14. Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints, and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1‐2 days)
15. Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure
16. Completes all required employee trainings, participates in other trainings when possible
17. Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines
18. Provides ADA accommodations as requested
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Political Science
2 years teaching experience at the community college level
Experience working with Canvas
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s in Political Science. In the absence of a MS in the discipline, a JD or PA degree accompanied by a BS in Political Science and graduate coursework in political science may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Good written and oral communication skills
Computer (word processing, PowerPoint) and internet (web, email) skills essential
Cultural competency: ability to work with students from underserved/underrepresented groups
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
