Upper School History Faculty (Seattle, WA)
Full Time (1.0 FTE)
Academic Year Schedule (July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022)

The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Upper School team as an Upper School History Faculty member. We are seeking a candidate who will support the school’s mission of diversity and inclusion and who has a background that demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of intercultural fluency.
The Upper School History Faculty member reports to the Upper School Director and works closely with students and families, as well as Upper School Faculty and Staff and History Department. This position will be responsible for teaching four sections of history (inclusive of 9th grade Historical Inquiry and upper division electives) per term, in addition to leading two Cascades (winter and spring) and managing one Advisory group for the Academic Year.
While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks listed below:
Create and sustain a positive classroom culture, based on the mission and values of the school
Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
Possess the ability and skills to successfully teach history to 9th-12th grade students
Value and incorporate diverse perspectives in daily interactions and within the curriculum
Establish classroom expectations that create a safe and comfortable environment for all students
Collaborate and work effectively with the school’s History Department
Create and sustain effective family partnerships, for example: communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom news via formal fall/spring conferences, written communications, and school portal.
Observe/evaluate/assess students’ development and maintain accurate records regarding student progress and areas of growth.
Attend school related events outside the scheduled school day
Participate actively and with curiosity in school/division/department meetings, in addition to activities/committees
Serve as an advisor to a group of students.
Enrich or modify lessons, curriculum, materials and resources as needed to meet differentiated student needs and varying levels of progress inside and outside of the classroom
Collaborate with school counselors and learning specialists to establish and maintain social-emotional learning and wellness for all students
Collaborate with other members of the history faculty to create common experiences centered on student inquiry
Communicate openly, timely and supportively with students, staff, parents and other stakeholders regarding student achievement and progress
Utilize technology to support student success (e.g. Google Docs)
Experience and Professional Competencies:
Experience in teaching history – a minimum of 3 years is preferred
A bachelor’s degree is required
A graduate degree is preferred
