The British Embassy in Rome is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Project Delivery Support Officer for its Foreign and Security Policy team, to support the delivery of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).

We are planning an ambitious programme of COP26-related activities culminating in a suite of events at the Pre-COP ‘UK House’ in Milan this autumn. The successful candidate will support the COP26 Team in the practical delivery of these events, as well as wider diplomatic outreach and engagement activities linked to COP26.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning and successful delivery of COP26-related diplomatic outreach, engagement activities and events, targeting key Italian stakeholders;
  • Administrative support for the work of the COP26 Team, including logistics and communication support for official visits from the UK;
  • Provide input for regular reporting on climate policy and developments in Italy through attending climate-related events, keeping track of relevant news items and providing summaries in English;
  • Update and streamline COP26 contacts in the Embassy contact database, aiming to broaden and deepen the Embassy’s network and outreach amongst a plethora of Italian stakeholders (e.g. think tanks, academics, regional political and business leaders);
  • Learn to use effectively FCDO IT systems (MS Office 365, MS-Teams, etc.)
  • Actively participate in a corporate capacity within the Embassy, contributing to the wider corporate agenda of the Italy network.

  • Proficiency in English and Italian (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework* or equivalent);
  • Experience in managing complex events;
  • Excellent organisational skills, including working to tight timelines;
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams);
  • Good networking and relationship-management skills. The successful candidate will need to work with colleagues to develop and extend existing contacts, and professionally handle communications with a wide network of stakeholders;
  • A proven track record in working well with others is central to this role which is both part of a close-knit team but also involved working with colleagues across the Italy network and in Whitehall;
  • Flexible approach, strong initiative and adaptability to evolving work priorities.

  • Previous knowledge of climate issues and a sound understanding of the importance of COP26 in tackling climate change would be an advantage;
  • Budget management experience would be an advantage.

This is a full-time temporary position with a contract of 7 months, graded A2(L) according to the FCDO grading structure. The monthly gross salary is Euro 2312,07. The salary is paid monthly 14 times per year including € 10.33 EDR paid 13 times per year, with double salary payments in June and December. If working less than a full calendar year, the additional salary payments will be pro-rata.

Working hours are 35 hrs per week Monday to Friday 09.00 – 17.00.

 

The appointment is subject to security clearance, professional background check and the successful completion of a 3 month probationary period.

 

All staff employed by the British Embassy are subject to Italian income tax (IRPEF). However the administration of these tax payments will vary depending on nationality.

 

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Italian State Social Security Scheme. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Rome are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Italian employment law.

 

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Italy and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
