The British Embassy in Ljubljana is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Policy Support Officer. 

This is an interesting and varied job within the Political Section of the British Embassy in Ljubljana. The job holder will help to coordinate the work of the Political Section in delivering on UK foreign policy priorities and will provide briefing and logistical support to the Political Section, Deputy Ambassador and Ambassador.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Assist the Deputy Head of Mission and the Political Section by arranging meetings and events, diary management, responding to correspondence and arranging travel and transport;
  • Support engagement of all colleagues in the Political Section, including policy support, briefing and accompanying to meetings;
  • Lead on information management with the Political Section;
  • Work with colleagues across the Embassy in supporting the delivery of high-level VIP visits from the UK, helping to delivery targeted and effective programmes, ensure well-managed logistics and clear communication across all stakeholders;
  • Support the British Embassy Ljubljana’s foreign policy engagement with Slovenia by coordinating and allocating requests for engagement and information from the UK on foreign policy issues. In time, the right candidate may also be able to take on responsibility for a specific foreign policy portfolio, based on their interests, experience and expertise;
  • Provide cover for the Ambassador’s assistant during their absence, working directly with the Ambassador;
  • Undertake training and personal development through formal and informal training opportunities.

  • Fluency in Slovene and English (both oral and written, minimum C1 level*);
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, and attention to detail;
  • Ability to respond flexibly to requests, working at pace and with clear evidence of an ability to prioritise effectively to deliver results;
  • Strong record in working as part of a multifaceted team.

This is a full-time, temporary position of 40 hours gross per week for one year with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background, security clearance and a probation period of 6 months probation period.
