Currently, we’re looking for a Political and Programme Support Officer.
Main purpose of job:
- Provide administrative support to the other four members of the Counter-Terrorism and Extremism Network (CTEN) Hub for Europe, with specific PA responsibility to the Regional Hub Head;
- Facilitate communication around the network of just over 25 British Embassies in Europe, particularly through the management of regular and ad-hoc engagement meetings;
- Assist with the administration of Europe programmes, including data gathering and activity monitoring;
- Provide policy support to the hub and its members, leading or contributing to discrete projects in support of Hub priorities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- The jobholder will provide effective and comprehensive administrative support to the CTEN Hub team, to include PA (primarily diary management and travel booking) support for the Hub Head, and ad-hoc support to the other three members of the hub team where necessary. This support must be given with a focus on rapid and efficient delivery;
- Further key responsibilities include facilitating and maintaining communications around the network, with particular responsibility for supporting regular meetings with network Embassy teams through management of scheduling and logistics, attending all meetings, and producing meeting notes in a timely and accurate fashion. The jobholder will also be responsible for the maintenance of email distribution and staffing lists to ensure they are always up-to-date;
- In addition to these core duties, the position will provide essential support to the administration of the three Europe programmes overseen by the Hub seeking to deliver key objectives of the UK CT Plans for Europe, including support to the Programme Manager in monitoring budgets, activity planning, and activity delivery by Embassies, as well as some financial administration in support of Hub and network activities as required;
- The role will also include policy support, with specific responsibility for the development and maintenance of general profiles on key European countries, as well as ad-hoc support to hub-lead policy projects covering a wide range of Counter Terrorism and Counter Violent Extremism issues, which may evolve with experience.
- Full professional proficiency in English, including excellent writing skills (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
- Independent level of French and/or Dutch (minimum of B2 level for CEFR framework*);
- Previous experience of diary/database management or related admin roles;
- Proven ability to prioritise and deliver results, meet competing deadlines and work efficiently to tight timescales;
- Highly organised & with a keen attention to detail;
- Ability to work effectively within a team;
- Strong IT skills, in particular Microsoft Excel, Word, and Teams;
- Familiarity with other videoconferencing systems;
- Willingness and ability to develop new systems & working practices.
- Some knowledge of national security policy, including counter-terrorism and counter-violent-extremism theory and practice;
- Familiarity with finance and accounting principles and systems.

This is a permanent full-time contract for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week. The monthly gross salary for this position is € 3,486.19, A2(L) level. In addition, we offer an extensive salary package, which includes a 13th month, luncheon vouchers, pension scheme, optional hospitalisation insurance (subject to monthly employee contribution), reimbursement of public transport and a lot more. We offer more days of annual leave than the Belgian requirements.
Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.
Staff recruited locally by the British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Belgian employment law.
The successful candidates will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.
Passport: officers are expected to be in possession of a passport due to the possibility that they may be asked to undertake business travel.
Visa/work permit requirements: candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Belgium and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
