Prepares and serves food for Samaritan’s Purse employees and guests. Follows nutritional and sanitary standards using menus and recipes approved by the Food Services Manager, while adhering to all policies including minimum waste, food safety, and sanitation. Oversees kitchen production in coordination with the Kitchen Manager on a shift basis as needed.
SCHEDULE: Monday thru Friday; 7:00 – 3:30 (with occasional special events)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Maintains a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
- Prepares and serves food according to approved menus and standardized recipes, while keeping waste to a minimum.
- Puts away dry stock in the storeroom, refrigerated food in the cooler, and frozen foods in the freezer when delivered by food service vendors. Ensures proper dating, rotation, and storage.
- Monitors food quality using Food Safe methods as directed. Applies correct cooking temperatures.
- Helps maintain an orderly clean kitchen, eating and service areas, storage, and cooler/freezer facilities.
- Assists in serving meals in appropriate portions. Notifies Chef and Manager if quantities are low.
- Prepares and serves food and beverages to guests at caterings, special events, and banquets as scheduled.
- Maintains cleanliness and appearance of front of house. Refills items and alerts manager when stock is low.
- Assists in daily closing, cleaning, and dishwashing after meals. Collects and returns dirty dishes to washing area.
- Removes trash and breaks down boxes. Sweeps and mops floors.
- Keeps Food Service Manager apprised of problems or situations that may arise, such as product shortages, special orders, repairs, or maintenance needs.
- Assists in submitting biweekly orders to food vendors. Maintains a working knowledge of websites and relationships with food distributors to fulfill tasks to completion.
- Monitors prep list and kitchen tasks to ensure proper quality and timing.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to read and prepare recipes with little supervision, convert small recipes to large scale production, and execute a majority of kitchen recipes
- Working knowledge of all specialized kitchen positions except cashier
- Comprehensive knowledge of all kitchen equipment including fryer, dish machine, grill, smoker, ovens, flat top, and slicer
- Advanced knowledge of food prep techniques and terminology
- Basic knowledge of the methods, principles, processes, materials, techniques, and equipment used in quantity food preparation and customer service
- General knowledge of proper food storage and handling techniques, as well as the quality, safety, and sanitary standards involved in food preparation
- General knowledge of production and processing, including cost controls and other techniques for effective operations
- General knowledge of principles and processes of providing customer satisfaction.
- Ability to demonstrate social perceptiveness and understanding of others
- Ability to prioritize quickly
- Ability to verbalize accurate, concise information in a fast paced environment
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in food preparation.
- “ServeSafe” manager certification required.
