ECHO Partnership Assistant (Traineeship)


The Opportunity

Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the– ECHO Partnership Assistant (Traineeship) at Brussels Save the Children office location.

Role Purpose:

In Brussels: Provide support as per key areas of responsibility to the EU Donor Relations Team. The team’s goal is (1) to ensure that Save the Children capitalises on donor funding opportunities that are consistent with our strategic and thematic priorities; and (2) to ensure Save the Children engages in efforts to inform and influence donor policies and investment priorities, as appropriate.

We aim to provide trainees with an opportunity to gain experience in a leading international NGO, learn more about ECHO fundraising, and obtain skills in donor information management, contract monitoring and rules/regulations of ECHO.

Save the Children, along with other peer NGOs, is currently working to better understand the impact of Brexit on our global work and positioning in Brussels. Alongside this, the organization is undertaking a process to ensure we are engaging with the EU in the most efficient, strategic and collective way across our members. Therefore, the overall duration of the contract, as well as the possible field deployment, will be subject to the final design and governance of the EU Donor Relations team.

In the field (tbc): The specific country or region for this part of the posting will be decided during the first half of the traineeship and will be based on specific capacity needs and on the performance of the trainee during the first part of the traineeship.

The goal for this part of the traineeship is (1) to give the trainee experience working in the field, and (2) to strengthen the Country or Regional Offices’ work with ECHO.

We aim to provide the trainee with an opportunity to learn how to work with ECHO in more practical terms, which includes the whole project cycle from engagement and proposal writing to implementation and reporting.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of and/or previous experience engaging with ECHO;
  • Strong computer skills: Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • The ability to analyze complex data, summarize it and communicate it to different audiences is essential;
  • Well-organised and flexible with the ability to work independently and take on additional responsibilities when required;
  • Strong writing and editing skills;
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal, fluency English is essential);
  • Working level of spoken and written French;
  • Ability to work with different people and adjust to new environments;
  • Willingness to work in difficult working environments;
  • Commitment to Save the Children’s mission, values and approach (see next page); and
  • Authorisation to work in Belgium

Desirable

  • Strong affinity for working with statistics and website updating;
  • Previous experience working at NGOs or International Organizations
