Main purpose of job:
The Security Team within the British High Commission (BHC) New Delhi, are responsible for the safety and welfare of personnel, visitors and contractors on site, together with the assets of the High Commission and British Government. As an important member of the Team, the Guard Force Commander will have a role and responsibility to ensure that the objectives are met.
The Guard Force Commander (GFC) will be responsible for assisting with the management of the existing ‘In House’ guard force, consisting approximately 70 staff who work on a four shift roster coving duties on a 24/7 basis. GFC is responsible for monitoring, mentoring and training the guards with emphasis on their performance, timekeeping, discipline, learning and personal development and deployment. GFC will also oversee the appraisal system, ensuring that all guards receive support as per internal instruction and guidelines.
In addition to assisting with the management of the Guard Force, the GFC will also assist the Post Security Manager (PSM) with a range of administrative tasks such as security screening of domestic staff, production of security passes, dealing with customer questions, organising meetings and transportation and covering any absence of the PSM. The GFC should be able to conduct security briefing for UKB and CBS in PSM’s absence. To that end it will be essential that GFC has an acceptable level of IT skills, preferably in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and is able to access the Internet and send competent e-mails.
Although not a position that requires shift work, it will be essential for the GFC to be flexible in terms of working hours. Such is the nature of the work, the GFC must also be capable of changing priorities quickly and efficiently.
Communication is an essential part of the position and an excellent understanding of English is essential, as is the ability to communicate and write in English. Additionally, because of the mix of the guards, it will be necessary for the GFC to be able to communicate in both Hindi and Nepalese.
Everyone who works at, lives at or visits the premises of the BHC are regarded as our Customers. From time to time incidents may arise which need to be dealt with in a calm and professional manner. Using appropriate communication skills in these circumstances, understand the procedures and taking ownership of the problem will be another essential requirement required of the GFC.
To be able to conduct an effective and efficient guarding operation, the GFC must have an in depth knowledge of physical security to ensure the Protection of Life and Property. Having knowledge of the working of associated security equipment would be a major advantage, particularly those used for access control, such as metal detectors, X Ray machines and Radio Systems. Knowledge of CCTV systems will also be necessary.
The GFC will be expected to set an example to those under his/her command. Knowledge of the Standard Working Procedures will be a priority, good timekeeping, good manners, an approachable attitude and smart appearance are but a few of the things expected. GFC must also be capable of recognising areas of the operation that are in need of improvement, overhauling or changing altogether.
Being self motivated, meeting and achieving personal objectives is a must. Identifying and setting Personal Development needs, will also be expected in line with the working practice of the British High Commission.
Resources managed (staff and expenditure):
Responsible for assisting with the management of 70 Security Officers. Responsible as Reporting Officer for 4 x A1 Security Sergeants and Countersigning Officer for 5 x S1 Security Corporals.
No budget allocation.

Essential on arrival:

Knowledge and experience of managing/leading a guard force. Customer Care Skills. Able to make difficult decisions under pressure.
Individuals should have completed at least 15 years of army service.
Minimum Graduation is a must.
Should be medically fit (SHAPE-1)
Level of English should be excellent.
Desirable:
Ability to deliver training, Driving Skills, knowledge of Personal Radio systems, CCTV and Access Control equipment.
Nepalese language skills and previous military experience is desirable

For other than BHC candidates, Basic Salary will be INR 47, 354 per month together with a 12% provident fund and 6% Superannuation Fund.

No relocation or any other related costs or assistance will be provided.
Please note – BHC does not deduct tax at source and employees are required to ensure that any requirements of local income-tax law are complied with in full. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
