The British Embassy, Israel has vacancy for a Deputy Director – UK Israel Tech Hub, Grade – C4 (L).

Overview of the role:

An excellent opportunity for an experienced, highly-motivated individual to join the innovative UK Israel Tech Hub, in a management position to work alongside the Hub’s Director in Tel Aviv.

In line with the UK Government’s ambition to establish the UK as a global player in tech and related industries, the Hub’s primary objective is to enable British stakeholders to gain a global advantage by partnering with Israeli innovation, while positioning the UK as a partner of choice for Israeli companies to expand globally.

The Deputy Director will manage the operations unit, consisting of 3 employees; contribute to the Hub’s overall strategic direction; take a lead on certain sector coverage in Israel; lead on cross team projects and senior relationships with external contacts and sponsors. The Deputy Director will report to the Hub Director, and be part of a dynamic team of 10, primarily based at the British Embassy in Tel Aviv.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and pursue new strategic opportunities for the Hub, be able to identify and cultivate new leads, understand business and innovation needs across all sectors the Hub deals in and convincingly present the opportunities for collaboration via the Hub.
  • Management of the Operations unit, currently consisting of 3 employees. Lead on operational management responsibilities, including project oversight, impact assessment (monitoring and evaluation), budget management, HR supervision, or as further defined according to need in order to support the work of the Hub’s Director and new strategic directions for the Hub.
  • Oversee selected sector work where there are operational gaps (might include: EdTech, Retail or others). Working closely with the Hub team in Israel and the UK to fill these gaps and play a key role in identifying and refining strategic priorities for these sectors; bringing in new projects and clients; delivering activities and tangible business outcomes.
  • Assume a leadership role within the team and the wider Embassy by representing the Hub and the Embassy externally in the absence of the Director (media, speaking opportunities, event representation).
  • Support the implementation of hub strategy, including the planning and organisation of the delivery schedule, preparing and presenting in board meetings, devising and adapting projects to adhere to HMG priorities.
  • Contribute to the Hubs’ future sustainability by actively seeking new opportunities for execution of the Hub’s mission, signing off on work proposals and suppliers, as well as pursuing new partners and recruiting commercial sponsors.

 

Resources Managed (staff and expenditure):

  • Daily management of the operations unit
  • Manage the budget forecast and actual spend throughout the financial year, work closely with the team’s sector managers overseeing and guiding their financial plan according to their projects.

Essential:

  • Flawless written and verbal communication skills in English. Hebrew and/or Arabic – a strong plus.
  • 5+ years’ experience working in business development, sales & marketing, management, consulting, finance, project management or at a start-up.
  • BA or equivalent.
  • Proven project management and budget management skills to develop and run programs and partnerships from the ground up.
  • Proven experience in impact assessment, including monitoring and evaluation of project outcomes.
  • A track record of success and demonstrated ability to deliver results.
  • Can work creatively, strategically and independently yet in coordination with 2 strong teams based across Tel Aviv and London.

Desirable:

  • MBA or equivalent (business/technology related Master’s degree).
  • Experience of work/management within a matrix structure.
  • Passion for innovation, technology and international collaboration.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, the UK/Israel business landscape and culture. Ideally would bring a network of business contacts in Israeli and/or the UK in addition to the ability to expand this network.
  • Work or Academic experience in one of the Hub’s key sectors of focus.
  • Experience working in/with government or not-for-profit environments.
  • Experience working in the development sector or dealing with economic empowerment issues.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including the non-negotiable salary of NIS 16,000 per month plus transport allowance and social benefits: Pension employer contribution 7.5% and Keren Hishtalmut employer contribution 7.5%.

This position is offered on a Full Time, Permanent contract and the successful candidate will be on a six-month probationary period. 

Parking facilities are not provided nor paid for by the Embassy. No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Normal working hours are Monday to Thursday 8:00-16:00 and Friday 8:00-13:30 for a total of 37.5 weekly.

Flexibility will be required, including occasional evening events, some travel locally and occasional travel to the UK.

The Embassy invests in staff’s development with a variety of learning and development opportunities.
