The British Embassy in Hungary is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas.
We are now looking for a paid Intern to work with the Embassy’s Political team to help to deliver specific additional work over the coming months to support COP26.
The successful candidate should be a university student or recent graduate who has limited work experience, and an interest in building up career experience in a field related to the Embassy’s activities
As part of the Embassy Policy team’s Prosperity pillar, you will help deliver and manage events to mark the UK’s chairing of COP26 in November of this year, in addition to administrative work. This will also include supporting some aspects of our digital communications in support of our COP26, green recovery and sustainability. You will also support the Climate officer in the embassy, on project design and administration.
This internship is a good opportunity to gain experience of working in a fast paced international policy environment in preparation for a career in this field.
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to carry out Learning and Development activities in line with their areas of interest, supported by their Mentor.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Event management: securing venues for events and managing aspects of the events and budgets accordingly;
- Social media: Supporting the Prosperity Communications Officer in the generation and sharing of media across the embassy’s platforms on Facebook, twitter and instagram in support of outreach to our target audiences. This will also include some coordination with the COP26 Teams in London;
- Support prosperity, economic, innovation and climate change colleagues, and other policy officers, to amplify their COP26 output and other activities; and
- Support additional corporate and administrative tasks across the Embassy.
- Excellent English and Hungarian both verbal and written (minimum C1 level for CEFR framework*);
- Some experience in digital media and communications;
- Ability to work with external partners and suppliers;
- Good organisational skills and project management;
- Awareness of climate and sustainability issues;
- Ability to work across multiple teams;
- Enthusiasm and flexibility;
- Interest in a career in international relations or policy.
- Previous experience of working in teams to deliver projects;
- Exposure to and/or participation in formal events, receptions or presentations.

This is a full-time internship position of 5 days (35 hours net per week) for fixed-term contract of 3 months with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance. You must have pre-existing work authorisation for Hungary in order to apply.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Hungarian employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Hungary and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
