PPD Consultant, Advocacy Hub (Part-time)

Background and Organizational Context

The PPD Public Partner Advocacy and Visibility Hub is located within the Public Partnerships Division (PPD) at UNICEF NYHQ.  The Hub’s overall aim is to ensure that children’s rights and children’s views are adequately reflected in the agendas of Governments, Inter-governmental organizations, UN partners and International Financial Institutions, ultimately leading to increased support — both financial and non-financial — for the cause of children and young people from decision-makers and the wider public.  

 

Guided by the overarching frameworks of 2030 Agenda and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Hub leverages various Advocacy Platforms to engage with public partners and provides coordination support to global advocacy priorities that require partners’ engagement at high level. This is done in particularly close collaboration with: 1) Government Relations Teams within PPD; and 2) Other Divisions, especially: Programme Division (PD), Division of Communication (DOC), Private Fundraising and Partnership Division (PFP), and the Division of Data, Research and Policy (DRP). 

 

In 2019, the PPD Advocacy Hub embarked on an internship/mentorship programme, with the intent to align to a central principle of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): “Leave no one Behind.”  This unique internship/mentorship programme is a collaboration between UNICEF/PPD and two local organizations – the Center for Community Alternatives (CCA) and the Kite – and aims to provide valuable job experience and skills’ building to young people who have been previously incarcerated.

 

The role of this part-time consultancy (approximately 20 hours per week) will be to coordinate the internship sessions and end of semester presentations by students, as well as write up a guidance note and case study on how this approach can be replicated by other UNICEF offices/in other contexts. 

 

Purpose and Deliverables

 

The Consultancy:  Leave No One Behind Internship Pilot will support the Unit in the following areas of work:

3. Key competences, technical background, and experience required:

• First level university Degree from accredited college or university in communications, international affairs, social sciences or related field (or appropriate equivalent work experience);
• 1-3 years relevant work experience, particularly in communications, community engagement, social justice;
• Knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
• Fluency and strong writing skills in English are required.  Fluency and strong writing skills in another official UN language an asset;
• Ability to work with minimal daily supervision and meet deadlines

Payment Schedule:

 

Lump sum payment will be made monthly, inclusive of all professional fees, daily allowances, living allowances, and other administrative costs.  Overtime, weekend and official holidays will not be compensated, nor will any holiday/leave time be granted.

Visa Requirements:

All consultants and individual contractors and any family members, who are not United States citizens, regardless of their nationality, must qualify for and obtain a G-4 non-immigrant visa prior to their arrival in New York.

Consultants and individual contractors are fully responsible for arranging, at their own expense, all insurance, such as life, health and other forms of insurance, covering the period of their services as they consider appropriate.  They are required to certify that they are covered by medical/health insurance.
