The Revenue Team at MicroMentor works to earn income and raise public and private funds, cultivating and maintaining relationships with corporates, foundations, networks, large NGOs, high-net worth individuals, etc., raising our public profile and sharing stories about our work by engaging with MicroMentor’s global community and the public, and our supporters and producing a wide range of online communications. The Revenue Team is passionate about MicroMentor’s vision and dedicated to supporting our worldwide team.
In support of that mission, the Development Manager leads MicroMentor’s relationships with major US companies and foundations by raising unrestricted revenue, strategically restricted grants, and elevating MicroMentor’s ’ brand profile. The Development Manager will set bold strategies, manage relationships with corporate and foundation partners, networks and high net worth individuals, and support relationships initiated by MicroMentor’s program colleagues around the world.
General Position Summary
This position will assist the Revenue Team to maintain strong growth in FY22 and beyond. The Development Manager will be a key part of a dynamic team that is responsible for partnership development to support MicroMentor’s global operations. The Development Manager will work closely with the Director of Operations and Executive Director by managing the daily operations that support the partnerships and, as necessary, serving as a secondary liaison to the companies**.**
Essential Job Responsibilities
PARTNERSHIPS AND PROJECTS
- Own a portfolio of donor relations and be accountable for a portion of the overall MicroMentor revenue goal.
- Support the Executive Director in raising $2M in unrestricted or strategically restricted revenue for MicroMentor
- Position MicroMentor for big bet opportunities and support the ED and revenue team to secure invitations for big bet proposals
- Lead strategy and management of 10-15 key relationships in the overall Revenue portfolio provide business continuity on other key relationships when the Director of Operations or Executive Director is travelling or otherwise unavailable.
- Coordinate with the Programs and Innovations on a regular basis to design strategic and scalable programs and match key programs needs with potential prospects or existing supporters. that can be pitched to prospects and existing partners.
- Coordinate with other internal stakeholders at MicroMentor including the Technology and Marketing and Communications Team, as well as field representatives at Mercy Corps and Mercy Corps’ Technical Support Unit to ensure MicroMentor’s development relationships are successful.
- Write and/or edit concepts, proposals, reports, pitch decks and stewardship materials.
- Manage the implementation of projects that support the Revenue Team including trips and meetings, profile elevating events, campaigns and communications to ensure donor satisfaction and increase the probability of ongoing support.
- Make significant contributions to the quality and quantity of giving partnerships.
- Manage 1-2 team members.

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills
- Proven ability to manage projects and competing priorities
- 5+ years increasingly responsible work in fundraising with corporations and foundations
- Experience with earned income revenue a plus
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills
- Adept at achieving project success when key responsibilities lie with other stakeholders
- Ability to work in teams to develop and execute strategy for successful partnership experience and engagement
- Understanding of international aid and development and/or social enterprises preferred
- Understanding of the corporate decision making process
Success Factors
The successful Development Manager will be an outstanding project manager and relationship builder, particularly with internal stakeholders within Mercy Corps. They will skillfully coordinate cross-functional teams to complete the projects and work required to move relationships forward and help Mercy Corps reach its partnership goals. They will be able to represent MicroMentor/Mercy Corps to key corporate stakeholders. They will be able to sell MicroMentor/Mercy Corps’ mission and engagement opportunities with passion and professionalism.
Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions
The position is based in Portland, OR or San Francisco and it requires up to 15% travel domestically and abroad.
Mercy Corps team members represent the agency both during and outside work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit/TDY to a field posting. Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC’s policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
