Main purpose of job
- The Prosperity Team in Panama City is looking for a full-time intern to join the team, eager to learn and passionate about influencing policy development and promoting economic growth. We want a person with good communication, organisation and analytical skills that can work independently and can take initiative to understand and solve problems.
- The job holder will build up areas of expertise in policy areas, acquiring and using a network of contacts to spot key opportunities for the UK to work closely with Panama’s public and private sector.
- The candidate will work directly with the Prosperity Policy Officer promoting rules based systems and a good business environment. The role involves influencing government institutions to reform policies and procedures, while supporting broader Prosperity Team objectives.
- The candidate will also help support the wider embassy in analysing and researching the economic situation in Panama, helping to contribute towards economic reporting and providing insight and analysis for wider policy considerations.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist the Prosperity Team in accomplishing its policy objectives.
- Use analytical skills to conduct research across the broader Prosperity Strategy and find areas of possible engagement.
- Use organisation skills to assist in the delivery of projects and administrative tasks.
- Communicate effectively to influence external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with new ideas, directions, and tools for communications that facilitate the completion of the team’s objectives.
- Provide support for and during a wide range of public virtual events to deliver professional and effective outcomes
- Recently completed or towards completion of a first-level university degree, preferably in related fields (e.g. International Relations, Economics, Financial Services).
- Fluent in English and Spanish.
- IT proficient.
- Research, analytical, and writing skills.
- Enthusiastic and willing to learn.
- Ability of work independently with little supervision and pro-actively to complete assignments.
- The candidate should have an interest in politics, good governance reform and an understanding of global issues.

The successful candidate must be Panamanian, or have a valid and current Work Permit through Ministry of Labour, and be able to provide it when requested by Embassy. The British Embassy – Panama City does not sponsor work permits. Office hours in the embassy are 8am-5pm Monday to Thursday and 8am-1pm on Fridays, though there is scope for flexible working arrangements, which can be agreed with the Line Manager.
