The British Embassy in Lisbon is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit an Investment Adviser, on temporary basis, to integrate the Department for International Trade Team (DIT).

The jobholder will assist the Investment Team in the annual delivery of the FDI investment targets and in promoting the UK as the most attractive location for Portuguese companies to set up and grow their businesses. The temporary role involves identifying relevant sector opportunities, new investment leads and projects, answering enquiries, liaising with partnering organisations, and planning and managing events, which promote the UK as an investment destination for investors.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify new investment leads of Portuguese companies from all sectors and match the UK offering to local market demand;
  • Promote and monitor investment opportunities in all sectors focussing on Tech and Clean Growth Campaigns to Portuguese companies, using an account management approach;
  • Co-operate closely with other Embassy teams, relevant external stakeholders and DIT colleagues across the European investment network.
  • Monitoring of investment pipeline in all relevant systems such as Data hub and internal potential investors databases by ensuring consistency across all systems, which results in accurate data for Portugal in the Investment Monitoring reports.
  • Carry out event management duties for initiatives which promote Portuguese investment in the UK (including networking events, meeting programmes and senior officials’ visits; provide support to inward missions), including: activity planning, liaising with partner organizations and sponsors, researching/negotiating with suppliers, budget monitoring, managing invitations and replies., providing support on-site and developing PR/social media activity.
  • Produce and publish relevant content on the team’s digital and social media channels (Twitter and LinkedIn), in line with our communications strategy.
  • General Administration support (electronic filing, Data input to lists of contacts and investor databases, compiling investment quarterly statistics, PIR). Carry our other administrative tasks and provide cover and assistance to the team and colleagues when required.

  • Full professional proficiency in English and Portuguese (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
  • Relevant University Degree;
  • Ability to multi-task and strong event management skills;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and IT capability (MS Office etc.)
  • Previous work experience 1-3years and/or evidence of working in teams and projects (incl. internships).

  • Ability to think strategically to spot opportunities.

This is a full-time, 6 months contract for 5 working days (35 hours net) per week.

The yearly salary for the position is €21,379.68 (paid X14) plus €134,00 monthly meal allowance. 

All staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Portugal are subject to local Portuguese employment law as well as internal regulations in force at any given time.

The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background and security clearance and must have pre-existing work authorisation for Portugal in order to apply.

The Embassy will not consider applications from existing staff who have not successfully completed their probation period or, in the case of staff on temporary contract who have not yet completed two thirds of their contract.
