CASEWORKER needed – Refugess Nonprofit in Greece

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in casework / social work, passionate about LGBT and refugees’ rights. The caseworker will be in direct contact with asylum seekers & refugees to assist them with daily necessities and legal immigration requirements. Your work will make a tremendous difference in the lives of the courageous members of this community and will provide you an incredible opportunity to learn about different cultures, traditions, world views, and languages.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain weekly check-ins with your assigned members, 15 min – 1 hr sessions on average

• Caseload of about 30 members

• Facilitate the transfer of information that will enable members to prepare relevant documentation and access specialised care

• Facilitate group meetings for house members on average, once per month

• Carry out risk assessment and make referrals when necessary, inform members of the existing provisions available to them and encourage them to explore and map external safe spaces

• Attend weekly coordination meetings with other caseworkers and Operations Director

• Prepare weekly case reports and provide recommendations to the Operations Director

• Support and guide residents in their job search and housing search

• Coordinate with translators and cultural mediators as necessary

• Carry out crisis management and de-escalation techniques in special emergency situations

• Collaborate on data collection and mapping of structures and services for the target population

• Ensure the confidentiality of all information of the members

• Promote long-term strategy and problem / conflict resolution

• Undertake other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Greek citizenship or eligible for Greek employment because there is a stipend.

• Background in social work or counseling.

• Experience working in Greece.

• Cross-cultural sensitivity.

• Interest and align with SPI’s mission.

• Required proficiency in English, French, and Greek. Arabic or Farsi would be an asset, but not required.
