The UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) in Africa is recruiting for the position of Marketing Campaigns Manager, to be based in the British Embassy in Cairo.
The successful candidate – a creative, flexible, resilient individual with a proven ability to cope under pressure for this demanding, but exciting role – will report directly to the Head of Marketing DIT (Africa).
The Marketing Campaign Manager will join the Africa Marketing & Communications Team based in Johannesburg, and work with DIT colleagues across Africa. The role will involve some travel across the Africa region and to the UK.
This is a fascinating and busy role allowing someone interested in economic development and marketing to work in a great diplomatic mission at an exciting period in UK/Africa trade and investment relations, as well as being a part of the DIT Marketing professional community.
The Marketing Team is responsible for building and reinforcing the perception of the UK’s economic strengths and business sector excellence, as well as promoting the opportunities in the Africa region to British businesses, in support of the DIT Africa Regional Trade Plan. As part of the DIT Africa Marketing and Communications Team, the Marketing Campaign Manager will be responsible for leading local and regional marketing activity; and the strategic development and delivery of marketing campaigns to audiences across priority themes and sectors, supporting both trade and investment. In addition, the jobholder will lead on specific elements of the GREAT Britain campaign which encourages the world to visit, study, invest in and do business with the UK.
As part of the Marketing and Communications Team, you will manage the design, development, implementation, and measurement of innovative and creative marketing campaigns that have measurable impact. These campaigns span above-the-line campaigns to low cost/ no cost activities. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying audiences and relevant channel planning, researching propositions, creating content, and being central to the delivery of media buy and creative development.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Manage effective marketing, advertising, and PR activity – identify creative solutions that attract attention, promote a clear call to action, generate leads and engage across teams to find innovative solutions to delivery while ensuring value for money.
- Develop marketing strategies by managing and executing Africa campaigns, working collaboratively with colleagues – predominantly in the UK and across Africa – on content creation, digital, social and traditional media outreach for a B2B audience.
- Create compelling content and material to support campaigns. Ensure content is engaging and delivered on time to a high standard.
- Manage campaign channel planning and allocated budget management of multi-channel integrated campaigns.
- Build marketing campaigns from agreed DIT strategies, working with partners and agencies to identify opportunities to reach audiences and expand marketing efforts, always pursuing value for money partnerships.
- Offer guidance to sector teams based on marketing best practice.
- Localise (for Africa) and deploy campaigns led by DIT Global (e.g., Ready To Trade)
- Measure and report marketing results against commercial targets.
- Plan and coordinate the use of GREAT campaign assets with network.
- Ensure the brand is used appropriately and that projects adhere to governance and reporting requirements and represent value for money with flawless execution.
- Manage budgets for projects by working in close co-ordination with GREAT campaign and network colleagues to provide regular and accurate financial information.
- As a key member of the DIT Africa team, the candidate will be expected to contribute to corporate and ad hoc duties as required.

- Minimum of 5 years’ professional work experience in marketing. Experience in developing, planning, implementing and evaluating audience-driven, evidence-based, integrated marketing campaigns.
- Demonstrates understanding of how marketing campaigns drive behaviour change and experience across a broad range of communication disciplines, including digital marketing, PR, advertising and partnership marketing.
- Experience of managing creative and media agencies.
- Ability to commission and analyse research, identify relevant insight that can support campaign objectives, mapping this insight to channels and audiences. Proven capability to use and analyse metrics of marketing and digital platforms.
- Ability to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in written communication. Strong written communication and the ability to create compelling content.
- Excellent communication skills and experience of managing internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to form effective relationships quickly and at all levels both within and outside the organisation.
- A confident self-starter, able to work using own initiative using analytical thinking.
- Creative, strategic, hands-on and forward thinking. Ability to see opportunities and challenge processes as means to improving outcomes or ways of working.
- Ability to learn quickly and work with a high degree of autonomy and as part of a team.
- A positive and flexible team player who is willing to contribute to the team’s overall objectives.
- Ability to deal with a range of competing priorities in a calm, efficient and professional manner, with a keen eye for detail. Organised and efficient in work and time management.
- Understanding of the full range of MS Office suite including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Teams.
- Working knowledge of Principles of Design, and working with creative programmes like Photoshop, InDesign, etc.
- Holds at least a bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications, government relations, or a similar field.
- Availability to travel across Africa and internationally.
- Knowledge of another African language (Arabic, Portuguese, French, etc.) is a plus.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of USD 2,277 per month subject to insurance and tax as per the usual regulations based on a 36 hours per week. However, employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
We offer a competitive package including medical benefits, performance related bonus, recreational facilities, opportunities for job related training & development, etc. There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
The role is for a full time employment, on a fixed term basis for seven (7) months.
