Summary of position:
The High Commission of Canada in Pretoria, South Africa is soliciting applications for Assistant level positions. Assistant level positions exist in various sections of the mission (Common Services, Immigration, FPDS, Trade etc.) and are responsible for a variety of tasks such as providing administrative support and services; providing and creating information and/or documentation; providing support for ongoing program activities; responding to requests from clientele and performing other duties as required.


Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience, computer skills, and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications. Candidates who do not demonstrate that they meet each of these essential qualifications will not receive further consideration.

Education:
• A degree from a recognized university OR
• A diploma from a recognized post secondary institution and at least 5 years of experience within the past 10 years in each of the categories listed in the experience qualification below.

Language:
• Fluency in English (oral & written)

Experience:
• Recent* experience working in an office environment in an administrative support capacity.
• Recent* experience in liaising and working with clients (internal or external), partners or stakeholders.

*Recent experience is defined as a minimum of 2 years within the last 5 years

Rated Qualifications
The Rated Qualifications relating to knowledge and abilities/competencies will be assessed using a variety of methods that may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, and/or practical tests.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet any asset qualifications:
• Working Knowledge of the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Protection Act & Regulations
• Experience in the use of ERP software (SAP)
• Experience in providing financial and budget management support.
• Proficiency in French (written and oral)

• May be required to attend meetings outside of normal working hours
• May be required to work planned overtime or overtime on short notice
• Ability to travel within Southern Africa and to Canada may be required (certain positions)
• May be exposed to stressful situations or difficult working environments


Condition(s) of Employment:
• South African citizenship, holder of a valid South Africa residence permit or otherwise legally able to work at the High Commission (please note The High Commission of Canada does not sponsor work authorizations directly or indirectly).
• Able to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada Reliability Status Clearance. Please note that the Reliability Status Clearance must be maintained throughout your employment at the Embassy as failure to do so may result in dismissal. This includes a criminal and credit background check.
• Must be able to obtain and retain a valid travel document and be willing, able and legally admissible to travel internationally including within Africa and to Canada (certain positions).
• Ability to meet the medical requirements as defined by the employer.
