YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recognize the opportunities biotransformation approaches have for the development and manufacturing of active ingredients in Bayer’s divisions CropScience and Pharma and drive for implementation to reduce time to market, gain efficiency and reduce cost
- Deliver manufacturing processes for the production of chemical intermediates in drug or crop protection product syntheses via biocatalysis in time and quality for diverse campaigns
- Supervise the development, scale up and optimization of innovative biotransformation processes in close cooperation with various functions and sites at Bayer, globally
- Contribute to the community management of Bayers global biotransformation platform by fostering an inclusive culture in which everyone is encouraged to contribute to the success of the platform
- Ensure scientific and technological excellence in the field of biocatalysis and biotransformation, anticipate trends for future applications of enzymes, novel methodologies i.e. in silico and manufacturing demands
- Set strategic and operational goals for the Biotransformation group in close collaboration with the Bio-Technology management team and all divisional stakeholders
- Lead and develop an interdisciplinary team of PhDs, MScs, BScs, technicians and students and make sure that the abilities of all are engaged to fully realize the potential of the team.
- Be accountable for resource management, budget, recruiting and continuous improvement of methods and workflows
WHO YOU ARE
- Highly skilled chemist (m/f/d) or biochemist (m/f/d) with a PhD degree and broad experience in the development, optimization and industrialization of chemical or biotechnological processes for the manufacturing of chemical small molecules
- Long-term experience in various positions and a strong ability to manage ambiguity, uncertainty and change
- Good knowledge of global best practices in bio-technology and biotransformation
- Strategic and value driven personality with excellent project and stakeholder management skills
- Capability to maintain a large global cross functional and cross divisional network within Bayer and with external partners
- Capability to envision future trends to leverage the value of biocatalysis for Bayers A(P)I portfolio
- Integrative and confident group leader (m/f/d) who develops a team, empowers, challenges co-workers and builds strong bonds, guided by Bayers values
- Self-driven, open-minded and track record in challenging the status quo
- Excellent communication skills as well as ability to influence executive leadership
- Fluent in English and German, both written and spoken
