Residence Coordinator
Main purpose of the role:
The Residence Manager will be responsible for managing to the highest standards, all aspects of running the Consul-General’s official Residence and its staff. The position will require a proactive, creative and practical hands-on approach to ensure the smooth, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the Residence. The Residence Manager’s role requires excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with the Consul-General, a wide range of Consulate staff, outside suppliers and guests and a flexible approach to both their work and working schedule.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?
To manage the Consul General’s official Residence, including:
- In consultation with the Consul-General, oversee the design and delivery of events at the Residence from small functions to large events; Be present at events to assist the CG and guests, and to ensure events run to plan;
- Coordinating and supervising reception arrangements, preparing menus and table plans and place cards;
- Responsibility for the Residence budget and accounts, and maintain food and drink stock levels.
- To liaise with the Consul-General’s PA and Section Heads on weekly programme and the set up and logistical arrangements for events; Coordination of consulate staff and contractors involved in residence events.
- In conjunction with Department for International Trade, utilise and showcase UK products and ingredients, for example through menus, furniture, art displays, table decorations and toiletries;
- To supervise the cleanliness and tidiness of the Residence and efficiency of the laundry and kitchen, ensuring the highest standards;
- To ensure the furniture, furnishings, domestic equipment and all other official property and personal effects are properly safeguarded, maintained and replaced where necessary. In conjunction with Facilities Management, maintaining up to date inventories.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under own initiative with minimal supervision, and at times under pressure.
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small team.
- Language requirements: Excellent/Highly proficient spoken and written English
- Relevant working experience in an international standard hotel, diplomatic residence or equivalent and /or experience in event management, housekeeping and catering.

The position being advertised is a one (1) year fixed-term, with a possibility of renewal.
Due to local Government measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, including strict entry restrictions, applicants who are non-Chinese nationals are likely to face significant obstacles when seeking residence permits, or travel into China. The British Embassy and Consulates General cannot cover the cost of transport, quarantine or accommodation for applicants who require work permits.
We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, good leave entitlement, and insurance plan etc. The monthly salary is RMB5,636/ month for Chinese national, or RMB7,894 for expat. We also offer excellent development opportunities and a 22-day annual leave entitlement in pro rata. Conditioned working hours are 17.5 hours/ week and flexible working can be arranged upon personal needs. There are occasions when the jobholder needs to work on, and be present at, events in the Residence in the evening or weekend.
Working in the evenings and some weekends can be expected of the jobholder, but we do compensate employees by offering time off in lieu (TOIL).
For expatriate, no accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. You must have or be able to obtain a local work permit with the support of the British Consulate-General.
Confirmation of employment will be conditional on the visa status of the applicant and agreement by the local authorities.
Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate-General Guangzhou are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Chinese employment law.
