Conditions of the Internship:

• As of 1 January 2020, Interns may be given a stipend according to the UNDP Internship Policies, if is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship programme;
• Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of the internship. UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
• Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
• Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
• The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship;
• The intern will be evaluated at the end of the contract and due recognition of work will be issued in writing.

Background

Despite the significant efforts of Armenia in promoting the rights of persons and children with disabilities, there are still large gaps in the provision of and access to services and assistive technologies. In order to address this issue, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) have joined its efforts and initiated the “Stronger Services for Equal Participation and Inclusive Development” project aiming at strengthening the basic service provision system in Armenia through a life-cycle approach and establishing continuous care and support for children and adults with disabilities. The overarching goal of the Project is to create a system of disability assessment and service provision that in addition to providing services addressing the issues identified by a medical diagnosis guarantees compliance with the rights of people with disabilities and promotes full participation in social and economic life.

More precisely, the Project will focus on: 1) improving access to the services and programmes for persons with disabilities (with special attention to children) at the/or close to the place of their residence through modernized and strengthened service centers; 2) establishing policy framework to support the modernized and strengthened multi-disciplinary service provision in the areas of habilitation, rehabilitation and assistive technology, as well as, assisting and supporting services at a community level; 3) strengthening capacities at national and local levels for policymakers and service providers to ensure quality and timely service provision to children and persons with disabilities; 4) raising society’s awareness of disability issues and fostering greater knowledge among children and adults with disabilities on their rights and on how to exercise them. 

Moreover, to streamline the assistive technology ecosystem building process, a new initiative – Tech2Life – has been established to serve as a platform where startups, donors, beneficiaries, organizations of persons with disabilities (OPD) and other interested stakeholders meet and act.

The Intern  will work under the direct supervision of the UNDP Project Coordinator on Stronger Services for Equal Participation and Inclusive Development, performing the following duties:  

• Provides support to data research and analysis, as per Project needs, summarize findings and compose relevant reports;
• Provides support to maintaining project management system, including data management and filing;
• Provides support in liaising with stakeholders and beneficiaries;
• Provides support in preparing relevant materials and documents, including Power Point presentations;
• Provides support in organizing seminars, press conferences, workshops, on/off line events;
• Provides support in maintaining project-related records, ensuring relevant administrative preparations for meetings/events;
• Takes note and minutes during the meetings;
• Assists the project team in procurement processes when required;
• Performs other duties as required.

• Knowledge of CRPD (Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) will be a strong asset;
• Demonstrated analytical skills;
• Demonstrated initiative, tact and high sense of responsibility and discretion;
• Strong teamwork skills;
• Ability to work under the pressure;
• Excellent communication and networking skills;
• Strong computerd literacy and proficiency in MS Office (MS Word, Excel, etc.);
• Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

Education:

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

• Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
• Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
• Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
• Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Experience:

Applicants must have experience in:

• Research;
• Reporting;
• Spreadsheet development and database maintenance;
• Events organization.

Languages:

• Proficiency in written and oral English and Armenian. Knowledge of the Russian language will be an asset.
