BACKGROUND

The Division of Data, Analytics, Planning and Monitoring (DAPM) has the purpose to strengthen decision making and organizational learning now and for the future, improve effectiveness and drive results of UNICEF and its partners to realize the rights and improve the life of every child.

Within this overall purpose, a visual communication resource is needed across Units in the Division to make available to all UNICEF staff essential, concise, practical and visually user-friendly data, reports, procedures and guidance to effectively manage UNICEF programmes.

Terms of Reference / Deliverables

Following UNICEF’s branding guidance, the visual designer will support the design and branding of a series of DAPM issued publications, including (but not limit to) reports, brochures, presentation slides, training materials, and websites. The scope of work includes:

  1. Publication design – design publication layout with infographic, tables and diagrams; and insert photos, graphics and/or illustrations as appropriate.
  2. Website (SharePoint) design – design site page layout to present clear information, supported by tables and graphics; and
  3. Branding – design logos for DPAM digital platforms with template design for accompanying communication and training materials, including (e.g. brochures, handouts, manuals, and presentation slides)  

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication Design, Graphic Design, or related area is required. An Advanced university degree (master’s degree) in Healthcare or related area is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional work experience with focus on graphic design
  • Proficient in English is required. Competence in another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) would be an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Infogr.am data visualization software, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop software, and Microsoft office 365 software.
  • Advanced skills and knowledge on visual communication design, information design, data visualizations and branding design.
  • An online portfolio of advanced and relevant design examples is required. Must include: the similar topic publications design, reports design, infographic design and PowerPoint (presentation slides) design.
  • Ability to use data visualization to communicate information clearly and efficiently in engaging and visually appealing ways.
  • Advanced skills on Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Advanced skills on illustration and hand drawing.
  • Familiarity with UNICEF brand book and style guide an asset
  • Creative mindset and interest in translating technical documents into engaging graphically designed documents
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with proven capacity for timely delivery of high-quality products.

Requirements

  • Completed profile in UNICEF’s e-Recruitment system and provide Personal History Form (P11)
  • Upload copy of academic credentials
  • Financial proposal that will include:
  • your daily/monthly rate (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference
    • travel costs and daily subsistence allowance, if internationally recruited or travel is required as per TOR.
    • Any other estimated costs: visa, health insurance, and living costs as applicable.
    • Indicate your availability
  • Any emergent / unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF.
  • At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.
  • Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

U.S. Visa information:

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
