The British Embassy in Bishkek is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a dedicated Political & Communications Officer to lead on the Embassy’s external communications, and to provide analysis of political developments in Kyrgyzstan, reporting on them to London.
Main roles and responsibilities:
- Monitor, analyse and report on Kyrgyz and regional political developments, including Kyrgyz external relations. Organise and participate in official visits (including for senior level visitors) within and outside country on a regular basis;
- Lead on continuing development and implementation of the British Embassy’s communications strategy to secure high-profile, positive media coverage of British Embassy activity. Working across all parts of the Embassy, with other British Embassies in the region and with London, this will include sourcing content for the British Embassy website and social media platforms, and identifying and maximizing opportunities for media engagement;
- Maintain and develop a strong network of contacts to support the Embassy’s work across these areas.
- Fluency (written and spoken) both in English and Russian (minimum level required C1 under the CEFR or equivalent*);
- Intermediate (written and spoken) Kyrgyz (minimum level required B2 under the CEFR or equivalent*);
- Knowledge of latest communications techniques/approaches and experience of working with them;
- Previous social media experience;
- Understanding of Kyrgyzstan’s political scene;
- Good report writing skills;
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal and prioritisation skills;
- Confident and ability to take the initiative and be creative.
- Experience of developing and working with a network of contacts;
- Level of degree in Political; communications or related studies.

This is a full-time permanent position, 36 hours per week.
Working hours from: Monday to Friday 09.00-17.00, but flexibility on working patterns is offered.
The gross salary per month is USD 1,717. Please note that 13th monthly salary is paid pro rata in November.
The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background check and security clearance.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Kyrgyzstan are subject to terms and conditions service according to Kyrgyz employment.
