World Medical Mission is the medical arm of Samaritan’s Purse and has arranged more than 10,000 trips for doctors and other medical personnel to serve short-term on the mission field. The Volunteer Coordinator supports mission hospitals by assisting these volunteer medical professionals (physicians, dentists, and other allied healthcare personnel) with all logistical aspects of short term international mission trips including travel, housing, medical licensing, documentation, expenses and all other requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Maintains a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
  • Acts as communication intermediary between volunteers, the mission hospital/clinic staff.
  • Serves as public relations liaison between the volunteers, the travel agency, and donors to aid in their understanding of service to mission hospital/clinic in foreign countries, as well as a comprehensive understanding of World Medical Mission and Samaritan’s Purse ministries.
  • Provides oversight and direction to entire logistical process once volunteers are assigned to a hospital/clinic. Informs and guides volunteers verbally and in writing concerning international and in-country travel, immunizations, basic overseas travel health, airline information, basic travel items needed, living arrangements, temporary medical licensing requirements, and cultural differences.
  • Assists volunteers in obtaining information regarding workload, call schedules, facility layout, needed supplies, and medical equipment.
  • Manages a wide variety of logistical problems in route, which may include emergencies. Problem-solves, trouble-shoots, and offers viable solutions.
  • Keeps accurate and detailed service records in the voluteer’s electronic account by documenting communications, materials sent, and other necessary items pertaining to a specific trip.
  • Works in coordination with Placement Coordinator to update and restructure hospital/clinic orientation materials on an ongoing basis.
  • Manages project activity for related expense reimbursements and donations, maintains clear records of all transactions.
  • Participates in conferences, meetings, and prepares reports and presentations as requested.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and six (6) months to one (1) year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
