Main purpose of job
Responsible for the general maintenance and development of gardens at Residence and Office, creating a garden environment that is aesthetically pleasing and free of pests.
Responsible for general maintenance of buildings, including minor repairs, basic carpentry and plumbing in accordance with FCDO required standards.
Roles and responsibilities
Gardening: 60%
· Carrying out a varied range of gardening duties, requiring a minimum amount of supervision and use of own initiative: This will include but is not limited to Bed preparation, planting, propagation, border maintenance, mulching, watering, strimming, mowing, pruning, raking, weeding and clearing debris.
· Ensuring that all garden equipment and machinery are correctly maintained, serviced and kept in good working order.
· Take on special landscaping or planting projects as deemed necessary by the Estate Manager.
· Collaborate with the gardening team to ensure that the grounds are always properly cared for.
· Assist with disposal of garden waste.
Handyman: 20%
· Undertake maintenance and minor repair of fixtures and fittings. This will include but is not limited to
minor plumbing, changing perimeter and other light bulbs, renovation projects, etc
· Provide repair assessments, identify and report the need for major repairs
· Manage maintenance work requests
· Maintain the cleanliness of outside spaces such as parking lots, pathways, fencing, gutters and drains
- Undertake duties as assigned or emergency
Other duties: 20%
· Supervise contractors whilst they are carrying out work on High Commission premises.
· Assist with preparations for official functions (e.g. moving furniture)
· Maintenance of swimming pool
Back-up driver
· Competent, physically fit and able to do hard, outdoor work
· Ability to work well in a small team
· Have a track record of creating and maintaining gardens
· Capable of operating a wide range of garden machinery and equipment safely
· Proven experience in a similar role for a minimum of 2 years
· Attention to detail
· Competent DIY skills in basic carpentry, plumbing, minor electrical wiring
· Clean, full driving licence
· IT Skills
Must have the legal status to live and work in Belize.
· Well-organised and apt in problem-solving
