Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Senior Economic Affairs Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
Economic and/or sector analysis:
- Collects, evaluates, interprets, analyses specified statistics and qualitative socio-economic information obtained from a variety of sources and pertaining to particular sectors, countries, regions or development topics.
- Maintains databases and programmes for database management and organizes non-quantitative information.
- Assists in the design, prepares first drafts for analytical studies and reports on selected global, regional, national or sector aspects of economic development, related to the theme(s) and programme of work of the Economic and Social Council Forum on Financing for Development follow up (FfDF).
- Prepares briefing notes, inputs to speeches, talking points, background notes and similar material on issues relating to the Addis Ababa Action Agenda and the financing for development track;
- Assists in coordination of the FfD Forum and related events, including the SGI Fair and side events.
- Assists in the organization and servicing of expert group meetings, seminars, etc on FfD issues, including providing first drafts of reports, engaging in note-taking, and offering administrative support as needed.
Intergovernmental support:
- Prepares inputs for reports related to the intergovernmental FfD follow up process, including the FfD Forum.
- Follows intergovernmental meetings related to the FfD follow up process and prepares summary reports and similar material.
- Prepares inputs to statements by members of the Bureau and Secretariat staff to such meetings.
- Assists in the organization of panels, round tables etc on financing for development issues.
General:
- Assists engagement with Member States and other stakeholders in context of the FfD follow-up process, including the FfD Forum.
- Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work programme of the Branch.
- Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally.

Education
A first-level university degree in economics or related field is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area is required. (No experience is required for candidates who have passed a United Nations Competitive Recruitment Examination.)
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this vacancy, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
- This position is temporarily available starting as soon as possible until 30 September 2022, with a possibility of extension. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.
- While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post.
