Samaritan’s Purse mobilizes staff and equipment and enlists thousands of volunteers to provide emergency aid to victims of tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, floods, and other natural disasters in the United States. We often stay behind after our initial response to rebuild or restore houses for needy families.

The Program Manager for US Recovery & Development will work in assigned regions of disaster aftermath in recovery and rebuilding, being based in North Wilkesboro, NC.  They supervise field staff and lead volunteers and coordinates and partners with churches, local governments, and other relief agencies.  They also assist the Director of Recovery and Development, in daily tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Maintains a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
  • Maintains “real time” awareness of all site activities and all aspects of ongoing projects.
  • Reviews and evaluates field staff performance on behalf of the Manager, US Recovery & Development.
  • Fills in for on site for staff in any position should they be out of the office for an extended period of time due to vacation, sickness, or termination.
  • Manages smaller, short-term rebuilding projects in which a full time staff will not be hired.  This will include being able to manage volunteers in all phases of construction.
  • Assists Manager, Recovery and Development, in periodic jobsite and project visits to ensure the success and quality of each project.
  • Leads and assist with in-house building projects.
  • Oversees construction and other work done by independent contractors.
  • Tracks tools and their condition and provide as needed to on site teams.
  • Greets and welcomes volunteer teams; makes daily visits to work sites; assists with delivery of tools and supplies as needed.
  • Communicates and ministers to disaster victims, keeping them informed of the team’s work.
  • Works with local churches to ensure follow-up with homeowners and program continuation after Samaritan’s Purse is gone.
  • Handles conflict resolution as necessary with staff, volunteer teams, homeowners, churches, or other agencies.
  • Understands and ensures adherence to all safety policies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises 10-18 non-supervisory employees and 1 supervisory employee.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Samaritan’s Purse policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One year certificate from college or technical school; and one to three (3) years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Contractor’s License would be beneficial but not required.
