How can you make a difference?

Working under the direct supervision of the Chief of Communication for Development for UNICEF DRC in Kinshasa, and in close coordination with the Health section and the PEV, the Communication for Development Specialist will lead the coordination of the COVID 19 roll out strategy and accompany micro-plans as well as the implementation of demand-related COVID 19 vaccination interventions. At the same time, support to build long term capacity that will increase coverage and equity of all vaccines and improve the quality of demand programming in routine immunization programmes.

  • Lead, coordinate, adapt, monitor and provide visibility for the COVID vaccine roll out strategy and support the PEV in the adaptation and implementation of the COVID vaccine roll out communication strategies for the general public and targeted populations including key influencers including health workers, as early adopters and community-based advocates for vaccines.
  • Support the communication for development and community engagement strategies for other ongoing immunization campaigns including routine vaccination.
  • Organizes the research, development, pre-testing, and production of culturally relevant communication materials related to immunization.

  • Develops and enhances strong partnerships with community groups, leaders and other partners in the community and civil society for promotion of participation in social and behavioural changes supportive of programme goals related to immunization.

  • Develops training materials and activities to build capacity for participatory and behaviour change communication related to immunization.

  • Provides effective coordination and technical support to government counterparts and other partners in the development and strategic use of communication for social development related to immunization.

  • Monitor and evaluate programme activities and prepare monitoring and evaluation reports. Exchange findings, experiences, lessons learned and new methods with partners.

  • Implement innovative practices, approaches and latest technology on multiple media and social/digital platforms and networks that are appropriate/available for the CO context and audience.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have:

  • Advanced university degree in Communication, Social Marketing social/behavioural sciences, (Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Health Education) with emphasis on strategic communication planning for behaviour development, social mobilization, participatory communication, and research.
  • A Minimum eight years of progressively responsible professional work experience in communication, social marketing, the development, planning and management of social development programmes, of which at least 3 years in developing countries, with practical experience in the adaptation and application of communication planning processes to specific programmes.
  • Fluency in French and good knowledge of English. Knowledge of the local language is an asset.
