The British Embassy in The Hague is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking for a Corporate Services Officer. This is an exciting and challenging support role covering various functions including Human Resources policy and Purchase to pay.  The role requires excellent  communication skills and an ability to multitask and support both Country Based Staff and posted diplomats, advising on a  wide range of issues.

Roles and responsibilities

Human Resources Policy

  • Handle the formal induction and departure of United Kingdom Based Diplomats and Country Based Staff;
  • Liaise with Ministry of Foreign Affairs for registering United Kingdom Based Diplomats and Country Based Staff;
  • Manage all leave administration including sick leave, maternity and paternity leave and special leave;
  • Manage employee letters dealing with employment status and end of contracts ensuring letters are checked and signed off by Head of Corporate Services ;
  • Remind managers and Country Based Staff of end of probationary periods within the set time limits;
  • Keep all staff records up to date (contracts database, CS Elements, emergency contact list);
  • Support Head of Corporate Services in communicating and clarifying Human Resources policy;
  • Manage United Kingdom Based Diplomats health administration, processing UKB Staff medical claims and advising and supporting United Kingdom Based Diplomats staff on Health insurance process;
  • Liaison with Human Resources Hub on Country Based Staff Recruitment processes;
  • Wellbeing point of contact and Mental Health First Aider;

Purchase to Pay

  • Deal with enquiries concerning payments of invoices and staff expenses claims;
  • Advice on Purchase to Pay process;
  • Manage invoice payments;
  • Support staff with I expenses and supplier set up forms;
  • Support staff with their Government Procurement card and Corporate Credit card applications;
  • Support arriving and departing United Kingdom Based Diplomats staff with their Car Administration setting up meetings with staff to explain the process and clarifying steps.

  • Full professional proficiency in English and Dutch * (C1 Level);
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Good level of Excel skills.

  • Experience or knowledge of working in an international (policy) environment;
  • Experience working in administrative/support function.

The successful candidate will initially be offered a one year employment contract at A2 level. The base salary for this position is €3,189.12 gross per month, based on a working week of 36 hours. In addition, an 8% holiday bonus and a monthly working from home allowance are payable. Actual commuter travel expenses up to a limit or a monthly set travel  allowance  for commuter costs are payable depending on the role and how often office work is needed. The Embassy currently applies a performance based bonus pay model for local staff. 

The successful candidate will be offered an internship subject to successful professional background checks and security clearance checks.

Under the terms of the UK/NL Double Taxation Convention (Article 18 1(b)(ii),  UK nationals who move to The Netherlands to take up their new role at the Embassy/Consulate and UKB spouse who start working at the Embassy with no previous record of working in the Netherlands since the arrival of the UKB partner they accompany,  will be placed on a tax abated salary if deemed to be eligible for Dutch income tax exemption on their salary. Qualifying staff will have no Dutch tax levied on their salary and will therefore be paid a lower salary abated by the amount of tax they would have had to pay if that local liability existed. A tax abated salary ensures a fair and comparable take home pay. Staff on tax abated salaries cannot claim tax benefits in The Netherlands but they are fully and comprehensively covered for social security and deemed to be resident local staff for all intents and  purposes.
