Main Purpose of Job:
Supporting efforts of the South African authorities against corruption is a significant priority for the British High Commission across a variety of work streams. The Anti-Corruption team comprises the Anti-Corruption (AC) Lead; an expert Anti-Corruption Adviser; Project Manager and several virtual team members representing UK law-enforcement agencies.
As part of a longer-term, strategic approach, working with other teams across the High Commission to match our strengths to the challenges facing South Africa and priorities identified in the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS), we want to build on progress we have made where we see the prospect of consolidating this in a sustainable manner.
If you have skills and experience of the anti-corruption environment that will help us design and manage a spread of programme support to various South African entities that meets these criteria and will achieve the maximum sustainable impact, then we would be keen to hear from you.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
As the technical focal point of our support to South African anti-corruption efforts, the successful candidate will have lead responsibility for:
- Programme management including: shaping the design, bids for and management of funding to deliver on our Anti-Corruption Programme ambitions over the next 3 years and related tender processes; monitoring, evaluation and reporting on progress and impact, ensuring the programme remains consistent with strategic objectives;
- Providing authoritative insight, comment and advice to colleagues across the High Commission on developments related to anti-corruption efforts in South Africa and their significance relative to our own interests e.g. Zondo Commission and other investigations;
- Advising on our interaction at strategic and operational levels with stakeholders including South African government departments and law enforcement agencies as well as civil society;
- Providing line management, leadership and development support to Project Manager, generating opportunities to broaden and deepen their project and programme management skills and experience

- Bachelor or undergraduate level degree
- Experience of delivering multidisciplinary work streams requiring regular monitoring and evaluation of key performance indicators, managing shifting priorities and balancing demands
- Experience of budget monitoring and reporting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)
- Experience of anti-corruption work or a related field and/or programme delivery
- Experience working in an international environment within the Southern Africa region, managing various levels of stakeholders
- A formal programme management qualification

Besides developing further programme management skills, the position offers an excellent opportunity to acquire and/or deepen skills in policy formulation, influencing, including at very senior levels of host government.
You will have access to learning and development opportunities through our Regional Learning and Development Centre.
The British High Commission pays in full for the Key Care Plus option on Discovery Health for staff including spouses/partners and dependants.
- Once you have successfully completed your probation the British High Commission will contribute 9% of your monthly salary to a Provident Fund.
- Annual leave entitlement of 25 days
- Working hours per week of 36.5
